BK with clean glass!

I don't think in the three years I've been running this stove the glass has ever stayed this clean. I'm burning hotter than normal and the glass is staying amazing clean for a BK. I wiped the glass down about a week ago when I replaced the door gasket.

Should clean mine. Wife cleaned it in March, probably due.
Probably smoke up with the 30° days & nights we're having.
Maybe in March again.

 

When you run the stove at these high temps how many hours of usable heat do you get out of the Princess for your setup and needs?

Pretty clean glass you have there! Having any trouble keeping the coal bed down when you are running hot? It always seems when I need the high heat the most is when I fight a thick coal bed.

 

That's how my Princess's glass looked last year when I ran it at #2 during colder weather. I use to get a good 12+ hour burn with a full load of Oak at that setting. As you lower the settings the flame disappears and the blackness creeps in.

 

I found I needed to keep the ash bed down to a minimum when burning hot or those coals tended to build up on me.

I also didn't pack the stove totally full, maybe 75% and still got a good hot burn for 12 hours.

 

That's because you are reloading sooner before the coals break down.

 

The picture with the coal bed was after 10 hours of burning on almost 2 with the blower just above low,(oak, locust, ash) the stove top was still 380-390ish and it still had decent heat coming off it. The house temp didn't lose any temp after those 10 hours upstairs or main level with a the low around -6 or 7. Last nights load went about 13 hours, on the weekends when I don't have to work I can wait for the coals to burn down a bit more.

Excellent info. We're just getting used to a new Regency F5100 which is a similar stove of hybrid design. But it's BIG. It's only dipping into the 20's at night so as soon as we throttle it down we get dirty glass on both bottom front corners. As soon as we see temps around zero degrees F we will be able to run it properly as you are. We want clean glass even if it means dealing with some coals and burning a bit more wood. We've got a 7 or 8 year supply in the shed so not a big issue.
