I had an earlier post about cutting up an oak tree top that was on my neighbor's, right across the line fence. Today I finally remembered to take a picture of the wood we got from it.

I should have measured to see how long the pile is but didn't. I expect there is about a cord of wood there. It is mostly red oak but a little bit of white too because there was one limb broken off a white oak that was along the road so we cleaned that up.

In addition, there is one piece of pine and 2 pieces of soft maple. One of the soft maples has a smiley! I told my wife, that was for her. She loves it.

I had intended on cutting wood today but, my body objected so I'm sitting here and right now watching the snow fall. The ground is once again white but it has been white a couple times already today. Until the ground freezes, it won't stay which is fine with me.

It is supposed to warm back up again next week anyway so even if some of this sticks, it will soon melt. Our temperature has been a steady 32 since around 9:00 this morning.

Yup. Done snowing for a bit now. I'm starting to see a little bit of blue sky. Ground still white.

Seeing blue sky at 4:32 PM. That is good. It is pitch black here by then. Starts getting black near 3:30 and by 4 PM, we are totally black. With no snow, the darkness is worse. If we have snow, and a moon, we can see a lot at night, but not now. Cold wet rain today. Son has been burning an old brush pile that he added onto. Must have been about 25 feet wide and as high as a person. I told him that would be a good place to plant some pumpkins next year. He has been clearing out a lot making an area for Frisbee golf. He has a lot of adult friends who love that sport.

Just 4 days to Winter Solstice! then the light starts to turn back on longer and longer. Darkness is so bad for so long. Depressing.

Be very very careful with that piece of wood, you know how pine causes chimney fires.

You got yourself a nice bunch of oak there Dennis, are you going to try and it processed before "real" winter comes?

It amazes us every time we head east just how soon the sun sets out there. Makes us think we should be on central time and we are close to the line.

And as the days grow longer, the cold will grow stronger.

That's how it seems to work in the east, the 2nd half of winter is worse than the 1st half.:shiver:
