I don't care how cheap oil is! I finally fired up the boiler today, a "gasser" despite somewhat warm temps. By now I'm usually had 4 weeks burning in. I have an indoor unit and it can make the house too hot in warmer temps. Every year, the first night of burning provides one of my favorite events of the season…. wood heated hot shower water!! You other wood boiler burners know what I mean, there is an additional satisfying comfort to making your own hot water, just the same as the satisfaction of any wood stove ownes get from the heat, just with a bonus. Another bonus is the boiler is about 6 steps and 1 door away and stays at least 85* in there and is a wonderful spot to towel off. Hope that wasn't too personal, just a shower folks. Sounds like a damp few days coming with the chance of ice, just in time! I love my wood heat.
Nothing like cranking up the hot valve on those days you are cold to the bone. My motto is, if we're out of hot water, the fire musta went out.
I have to say, I feel a big smug knowing I'm heating the entire house and creating all of our hot water from free wood all while only lighting one or two fires a day.
