Today, December 14 - it was 69 degree outside. Unheard of for Western New York, a temp record was broke today. I've spent the fall straightening up my wood processing area, finally finished that today - had a setback last Thursday - see below. Pic also shows some of my stacked wood for next year. The longer stacks are 16 feet long and about 7 feet high - each holds just over a cord of wood. Had a wind storm last Thursday - it knocked them over - what a mess! Each stack is now snugged up more - the tops of each rack are coupled together by steel wire cinched tight with turnbuckles, also I interleaved wood branches between the larger stacks - essentially connecting them all together - so as to add some "collective" stability. Hopefully they will stay put. The Fool

Gps, this is one reason we quit stacking when we reach around 4 1/2' in height. They don't tip over then. But we also stack 3 rows together which helps a lot and there is no problem getting the wood dry this way. Many think there will be a problem but it has never been. In addition, the wood piles shrink as the wood dries. Funny that all 3 rows shrink at the same rate! This tells me the moisture leaves about the same in each row. However, we don't necessarily try to stack the wood really tight either like some do. I stack a bit loosely just to get air circulation. About the only thing those wood stacks lack now is some snow.
Nice and clean. Collective stability - good thought. If you turn those 2 bys 90 degrees then you have the strong side supporting the load. An extra cutoff jammed in the block and some braces along the verticals and it would get even better. My stacks are iffy at 5'+ after a couple years.
Good Job and looks nice. I have to admit I always enjoy looking out and seeing those nice stacks of firewood just waiting their turn for the wood stove. Free BTU's I always tell the wife. She just looks at me like I am crazy. Once again looks good.
Sir, I truly appreciate your artistic endeavor! All kidding aside that's some nice work. Hope the weather holds out. I'm headed to Columbia County, N.Y in a couple of days and I'd like to get a couple of Columbia County 50 mile bicycle rides in while I'm there.
