Was looking through Craigslist for a parts saw after my 115 fell off the tractor and I ran over it. Didn't find anything for that but I came across a super xl automatic blue and a 3400 counter vibe. $40 for the pair, older guy says they both run but he just can't do it anymore. The 009 stilh was on another add if anyone is interested.
That Poulan 3400 is a good deal. Really good AV, easy to work on, and decent parts availability. The Super XL AO is also a good older saw. The 009 can just be left behind, blech!
As I've stated previously when a bargain 3400 comes up for sale, "A Poulan 3400 will crack an MS290's walnuts". By the way, did anyone look at the recoil decal closely? tree killer please go get the green saw. If you don't mind?........
Depending on the weather I'm going to get them after work. 34 and raining right now if the temperature drops any she's probably gonna get icey and I'll get there Wednesday. I'll get some better photos when I get them home and cleaned up. I was more interested in the home lite its an early one. If I'm remembering right the 3400 is very similar to the pioneer\partner from the 80s.
That 3400 has 4000 air filter set up on it. The photo is poor but the recoil label looks like it might read 4000 as well. Really good score if it is. Good score as well if it's a 3400.
I'm not really into old poulans but it seems to be that the picture of this is not what was advertised. I've looked online and Fossil and @Mag Craftat be right about the top cover. I can't find anything on a 4000. If that says 4900 it sounds like it'd be a beast. Does not look like it though. Didn't head north to get them tonight but will Wednesday or Thursday. These are the photos he sent me. You all have me wondering now. He listed it as a 3400. Here's the drive side. Can't read much on there.
Here's my Poulan 4000. I probably should have posted a picture after I got it cleaned up......... 65cc's of pure torque, and fury! Even without the extra bananas from Tennessee.
The pic of the drive side is poor but it looks like it may have a side port on the muffler which would also be a 4000 part. I do have a 3400 that came with a 4000 AF set up which was likely added by the PO. The 4000's are pretty snappy saws but I don't think the 6400 has much to worry about. If you do get it , PM me and I will send you a copy of the repair manual.
I'm going to go pick them up tomorrow. I'll get them cleaned up and get some better photos. They have been sitting for a couple years. If that poulin fits the right age group that might be a good runner for woodsman days competition.
Well I got them home. The homelite is not as old as he said. Looks like 1979. The poulan has a 400 recoil cover side port on the muffler and the right air filter. The clutch cover says 3400. So did someone change the clutch cover or the muffler air filter and recoil? Nothing on the saw other than a small serial number sticker. I'm really assuming that it's a 4000 but is there any way to decipher the serial number?
Custer, I've been looking for bore measurements on both a 3400, and 4000 without success. Maybe Eccentric, or Cut4fun can provide this information.
