So I am sitting here on the inside looking out today (not what I had in mind at all) and the boob tube in the back round was blabberin on about the issue of women in combat rolls. Now I don't know bout any of you but I have had the opportunity in my life to be associated with some pretty shall we say interesting character's. Many of them are dead, disappeared or in a Federal holding locker for a long time. One thing about them though is that some of the women they were surrounded by wernt no tiddlers when it came to chit when push came to shove. In fact most of them gals would probably hold their mud better then their male counterparts. Or maybe I should go to the store and buy some bread dough and make some rolls? One thing I do know fer certain is that there aint nuthin more frightening than a pizzed of gal with her booger hook on the trigger of a far arm pointing it at me.
Just wait till my new book gets published. Butchers guide to using 4 letter words properly in public is the working title so far. But for some reason I just noticed your comments at the bottom of your posts Dave. The first one strikes me as almost funny. What does a man need, really need? A few pounds of food each day, heat and shelter, six feet to lie down in, and some form of working activity that will yield a sense of accomplishment. -Sterling Hayden Was Mr. Hayden once a warden at Fort Madison ?
Well, back in the day I fought a lot of wildland fires, and there was a group of women from an adjoining Battalion that were tough as nails. I loved working with them. In a combat scenario, I'd be a weak link. One of them got hurt, I'd want to protect her. Pretty sure the other gal's would tell the injured one to suck-it-up and move on with the mission. My guess is it would be like anything else, need to pick the right people for the job at hand. ....and yeah, the "booger finger" thing had me laughing also, that was a funny.
Butcher, that does sound like prison talk. Mr. Hayden overlooked one very important necessity. That one being independence. I would forgo some of any of the other elements he mentioned for my right to maintain my independence.
A while back a buddy of mine got in an argument with my wife over women firemen. She claimed that women can do anything a man can, and he argued that women firemen (fireperson?) would get people killed. To demonstrate that, he laid on the ground like he was passed out from smoke inhalation and told my wife to pick him up and carry him out. My wife, who I like to say has "tard strength", is pretty strong for a woman and was she confident that she was going to toss this guy over her shoulder and carry him. But she didn't have a prayer of picking up a 250lb guy. So she tried to drag him. Again, he didn't move an inch. I think the best she could do was roll him over once and then gave up and admitted defeat. I see women in combat about the same. They may be able to shoot an M4 just about as well as anyone else. But there's going to be situations when chit hits the fan that I think they will be more of a hindrance than a help.
When my wife of 27 years and I first got married, she had a tough farm girl attitude, and she was. But I always told her that a man is typically stronger than a woman. She challenged me and tried to fight me. I grabbed her and just hung on basically restraining her from swinging, kicking, biting, etc. Finally she said "You're hurting me" which is when I released her. I told her, that I was just holding her, what if I was someone bent on hurting her? I want her (and my daughter) to be confident, but they have to be realistic and careful as well. You never know for sure what the other person is capable of doing. That's why my wife and daughter know how to use firearms; they are the ultimate equalizer. It's getting to be a crazy world out there, I want my "girls" to be smart and prepared!
One of the Best Russian Snipers in WW2 was a woman! Most of her Kills were given to another man so that the Germans wouldn't discover Her !
From booger hook (which I have heard and used many times) to tard strength (yep, that's new to me lol)......what's next people? Gotta love this place On topic, I'll leave this here for your reading enjoyment. These 2 badass female Army Rangers just made history — here's the grueling training they endured
If they can bear child birth, they have my respect! If we Men had to bear children, I think that we would probably be extinct!
If they'd come up with a set of physical standards that would actually be followed, with no exceptions, women should be considered for any military job, IMO. A color blind man or woman can't fly... a man or woman with a missing limb can't be in combat. If a woman can drag that 250 lb soldier off the battle field, she should be able to be there if she chooses. But, every man she fights beside has to know she's able to do that. If there's any question she can't... there are 100s of critical jobs a smaller woman or a smaller man could do.
I think being able or unable to drag a 250lb man is a small piece of the big picture here. Plenty of effective roles for women on the battlefield. They don't all have to be infantry soldiers. We have some smart men and women in the military, I'm sure they can figure it out.
It was recently reported that the US Special forces are against women joining them. I've never served but if this is the way they feel then it's good enough for me. Political correctness be dammed!
