My brother found an old picture of our house online yesterday. It is the one closest in the picture. The porch is now gone and the old lady and I are currently sitting in the living room where it used to be. The terra cotta blocks on the lower floor are now covered in stucco and are nearly impossible to drill through-- we found them a few years ago when we were installing a new rear entry door. The trim at the gable is sadly gone. The chimney is no longer fully intact, but still exists on the inside of the house. The small window at the bttom has since been replaced with a decorative leaded one, and a second one sits about where the main entryway to the porch was. And that lightning rod is still there. Also, our stairs are inside where that porch was, so they were elsewhere. I believe they were in the kitchen, as that is the only "new" ceiling in the place.
If you look at the very left of the pic you can see a young maple tree. I am willing to bet that is one of the red maples that was planted up and down our block. There are two left, one to the west and one across the street to the south. Both are in very poor and dangerous shape but the owners refuse to cut them down. We removed two (can't see the other in the pic) about five years ago because we couldn't park under them and were also worried one might go through the front of the house during the next big storm.
Very modern looking for the late 1800's, Nice to see what it looked like then. I was looking for overhead electrical lines.
The camera is facing the west. The electric lines currently are across the street to the south and to the north running across the easement in the middle of the block, both running east west. Our feed comes from the northern line and leads to the north east corner of the house, which is cut off on the right side of the picture.
