To earn the right to wear the pin, submariners complete an extensive qualification process that lasts about one year which covers virtually all of the submarine's systems on board.

A metal pin, showing bow view of a submarine proceeding on the surface with bow planes rigged for diving; flanked by dolphins in horizontal position, their heads resting on upper edge of bow planes. Gold for officers and silver for enlisted.

My current is the "major award" I put up at the Christmas holiday season. We enjoy that campy movie.

My most recent one was of anchors made in the early 1900's at the now vanished Cape Ann anchor works in Gloucester, Ma. In the year 1875, the Atlantic took 16 schooners and 143 Gloucester fishermen to the bottom.

I have a heavy interest in big iron, steam, and early industry. From sawmills, blast furnaces to steam engines.

Here is the full picture from a book.

I'm a Steam Engineer, being doing it since 1977. One of the few left around that has run steam engines, (stationary engines). Now it's Turbines.

One day while I was stacking wood, I was into a bunch of rounds that didn't need splitting. On the radio, they were talking about the fuel rod's at some nuke plant. Hmmm,
My avatar is a pic the "fuel rod's" I use in my wood boiler.:D
