My family has been burning wood for a long time, and I've got 30+ years of wood burning on my own.

I had a fireplace with a heatilator rack in the spot where the insert is since we bought the place in 08. We burned every winter since we bought the place, and used the FP through last Thursday night.

It's just impressive how much better the efficient insert is at heating this house than the FP was.

    :D

Funny thing is, I learned that word from FHC. I don't know who introduced me to that word, maybe MasterMech?

clemsonfor yeah, it's more like attempting to supplemental heat with a FP.

There has never been a more true statement said than that. I had a fireplace for 15 years before we got our Buck. The fireplace will heat 5 feet in front of it but that's it. I never would have dreamed that a stove would be that much more efficient but it does an amazing job at heating our 2200 sq ft home. I'm still learning but I'm getting 6-7 hour overnight burns with 4 splits and house will be around 70-72 in morning.

And the big plus is that just like Horkn, both thermostats (upstairs and downstairs) are set at 67 and are dormant!! They haven't been on at all since the cooler weather began and we built our first fire.

Congrats on the stove Horkn. Great find and install.

So I finally had enough time to watch that whole video. Wow, this guy uses Chooch as a positive and a negative thing.

"I'm not one to chooch my own antler horn, but......"

I have the quadrachooch going slowly tonight. Just a couple of splits of pine and box elder. It's pretty warm for this time of year, but I sure as hell am not going to let that furnace kick in!

    I don't apologize for that. ;)
