Got an interesting call from a guy Thursday afternoon looking for firewood. He went on to tell me that his company builds log splitters and other things. They needed wood in the round to test their log splitters and a chipper. The chipper required 1"-3" diameter limb wood and the splitter tests required 16"-18" long hardwood about 12" on diameter. He gave me the address to drop the wood off and I dropped the wood off this morning about 7am. It was at a Lowes Product Testing Center off the beaten path. The Splitters being tested were going to be the Generac Kinetic and Hydraulic Splitters. Manufactured in Wisconsin & Vermont. Lowes may be picking them up and selling them in their stores soon.

That's cool. Do you typically sell firewood? Is that how they found you?

Well, when they are done testing the splitters do you get the wood back?

I also am in the need of test hardwood. I need all sorts of hardwoods to "test split".
Please feel free to drop off any/all wood at my address.
Not gonna get away with this one, am I?

At any rate, I hope you're compensated for the handling/hauling of the wood for them.

Heheh, I hope you blessed them with some American elm and gum rounds. And really knotty stuff. Since they wanted to "TEST" the splitters, you know. LOL.

I do sell some firewood part time, I charged them my normal rate for a half cord of split seasoned wood. I brought them 16"-18" pieces of straight wood, red oak & pear. Apparently a half cord was going to be too much so they left some on the truck. Hopefully they will call again. I really didn't get to see a splitter, although I saw some empty boxes from the kinetic style splitters. I was there so early in the am the place was not really open yet .I just unloaded the wood onto pallets. Talked briefly about splitters and issues I had seen. Pocketed the cash and went to my day job. Apparently Generac & DR Power are affiliated and may share some of the same designs. Keep an eye at Lowes for them.

Looks like Generac bought DR's parent company so I'd bet they are the same splitters
