    Blown up plenty of vacs- 2 shop vacs, an upright or 3....
    I run the same shop vac for about 7 years now. "Yellow" fine dust bags are the shizzle. Cold wood stove ash, drywall/ plaster dust- no prob until your wife aims the nozzle at a nail or some sharp pointy thingy- a poked hole in a bag of ultra fine dust=suckage.
    But if that don't happen, I've been known to pull the bottom of the bag loose, dump contents, and staple it back togeths.
    A 2 pack of 10-12 gallon bags ain't cheap!

    I had an old POS shop vac that had motor bearings going out. When I was redoing my bathroom, I connected a few lengths of shop vac hose to the vac, put the vacuum outside, ran the hose in the window, left the power switch turned on and plugged in the extension cord when I needed it. All the noise and dust stayed outside. When I was done with the job, I threw the vac in the dumpster.

    If it interests anyone, I blew up several vacuums after finding fishing weights, a bolt or nut, or whatever under the couch skirt or other places. I bought a vacuum with motor protection in the mid 1990's, and have never blown one up since then.
