Thats all it took to screw up a freshly sharpened chain:mad: Apparently there is something metallic in the middle of this big round Im trying to noodle down. I went through two chains in ten minutes today:mad: The first one I found a nail so I changed it out finished the cut went to the next round and bam right in the middle of a big 30" round it started to bounce and make grinding noises. Ill take the wedge and sledge to it on Friday and see if I can find out whats in there:mad:

Craigslist score that so far has turned pretty sour. Im pretty sure the chains are good just need to be sharpened again, but the wood sucks hlaf of it is punky/rotten on the outer ring. Ive managed to get some decent stuff out of the center but its been a major PITA

One of the problems with wood scavenging. You never know if the tree used for clothes lines, tree house, fence post, hanging bird houses, an anchor for pets, ... A lot of times the home owner/renter has no idea or even thinks about it.

I smoked a chain in about 30 seconds yesterday. Fresh out of the box to completely worthless is less than one cut. Big oak right on the corner of an intersection. Probably hit a yard sale sign nail or something.

Just two chains? Bah, still a good day. My record is 7 in less than 1 1/2 hrs. Not a record I'm striving to beat.
