The whole stove is fine besides for behind the door top right fire box is orange. I had the air closed completely for about a half hour with raging secondaries the whole time. I guess I'll check for warping tomorrow a.m.
In the picture it's behind the door on the top right. It's purple in the picture.

No, it gets away even when its closed at times. Given the colder temps tonight, it was all oak, packed! No booze involved mind you..... :)

The 'lil 2550 Encore we have is completely different stove than yours. It ROUTINELY glows on the exhaust hood (internal stove part) and I used to worry about it alot. If left like that and too much wood is outgassing at once, the upper fireback will start glowing too. In spite of all efforts to stop that (modified primary intake shutter, new/tight gaskets, closed/stuffed ash chamber, etc.), it will still run away sometimes. The only way to stop the "dreaded orange glow" is to limit the amount and size of splits loaded. Using much bigger and fewer splits helps in this stove. Anyhoo, after all the fretful glowing and sleep-deprived nights of this happening, the stove still burns fine. No warped parts. Were I you, I'd cut back the intake sooner and use nothing but heavy density fat splits to load on COLD nights like that night. A few fat splits of black locust or oak and no skinny splits could get 'er under control on real cold nights. JMHO.

You are right on. My stove has always run hot, but this time I specifically pulled out a bunch of oak rectangle splits, and pieced them together like a puzzle in the stove. I never stop learning!:)

Your stove is perhaps different but on ours, if it starts getting too hot on the stove top, we simply give it a little bit more air. Then the sides and front get hotter and the stove top cools. Weird, but it works.

Weird indeed, but coming from you, I trust it. The secondaries were like afterburners on an F15o_O
