Had a friend up here that had a hunting Chessie. When that dog was hunting, he was long-eared Jack Arse stubborn. Would not listen at all while hunting but was good any other time. His name was Brando, but we called him Rambo when hunting him. This guy had to make reinforced canoe paddles because the dog would not listen while in the canoe...............

I used the e collar combined with leash and choker. The leave it command started in group obedience class. Treats were all over the floor. While walking on leash, we walked them past the treats on purpose. Almost all dogs stop and try to eat the crap on the floor. When they dropped their head, before it was even in their mouth, we gave a leash correction and a stern voice leave it command. The goal was for them to not slow down, stop, etc. We did this for weeks. Then one day we let them get a treat off the floor mid stride with an immediate leave it and leash correction. He dropped it instantly. Hell, he was hesitant to even try to get it! At that point, when you see the hesitation to inhale the treat, you know you are getting close.

I then used the e rig with leash at home to reinforce the correction cuz some people in class frowned on me with the e collar. Idiots but whatevs....

Basically you are teaching them that chit on the floor does not go in your mouth unless I say so with a "get it" or "find it".

It truly is a tough love command. No nice guy attitude.

It sounds to me like maple needs that e collar on 24 7. You and i know that thing straightens them out quickly. Once she knows daddy means business or I get nicked, it's much easier. A smart dog will always test the handler and push limits.

If you haven't tried a long line yet, they are great for reinforcing correction. 50ft long line, combined with an e collar, prong collar, and stern voice will let them know you mean business....even 50 feet away.
A 2nd person is handy cuz your hands will be full of leash. When you give the verbal and leash correction, have your helper hit the stim at the same time.

Thanks a lot! Same chit this morning, I get up after having 5 days off to go to work, and take her out, she peed and instantly wanted a stone. This pizzed me off! Working with her will be the # 1 priority regarding the leave it commands.

Are you using the Alpha/tt10 indoors? I thought the Alpha wouldn't communicate with the collar unless they both had GPS signal. I can't get my collars to lock in a GPS signal indoors reliably.

24-7 collar. She's testing the limits. It will help indoor behavior as well.
She will very soon respect that remote in your hands and more importantly your voice commands. My pooch straightens up by just showing him the remote. Kinda like a kid and the paddle (in the old days for you pc people) haha.

I did at first. Don't need it now :)

Luckily my house faces south and west with lots of windows so I got enough of the signal to work it. Remote said no gps signal, but the buttons still worked. Just remember to turn off the alert for signal loss cuz it'll drive you bat chit crazy!

I was going to get a cheapo $100 unit for indoors alone if the Alpha didn't cut it. That'd be my recommendation.....but my pack is a lil smaller than yours ;) I doubt the cheaper ones have multi dog capabilities

Hopefully we get some good updates ws. If you jump in head first now, you'll save issues later. She's moldable now. Hit it hard.

It's a bad time of year too, there is hardly enough daylight to run the hounds and get to work. Mine have been acting up a bit too. I've resorted to taking them for an early evening jaunt down the subdivision road, collar lights all on and my headlight on, I'm sure the neighbors are like WTF.

On the upside, maybe when ice and snow freeze everything up she will forget about the stones by spring time... hoping...:)

Yep. I get the look too. Flashing light on dog that's off lead in city limits. Then they see how well he listens.... They tend to mind their own business then.

Its been raining pretty good since I got home. Was a quick hit the yard, do her business and back in. When her nose went down, tugged up on her leash, a firm no and it went good. Dawn explained that Maple seems to pull this chit more with me, rather than with her. This maybe so. Expecting rain tomorrow as well, will do some indoor practice tomorrow.
Yea, its tough. We miss the evening run through the woods, or Maple would follow me on the atv. This also has to do with her surgery though. We've got about another week yet until full running is allowed, per the vet. If you were my neighbor, we'd hop out behind you down the street. What kind of lights you run the dogs with. A sportdog light came with her E collar as a bonus gift and her collar feeds right through it. Works good!

Ive thought of this often. Plus her first snow.....can't wait!

Cayenne pepper powder on the offending rocks will do it too. I had to "season" my mulch outside when Badger was a pup.

Well Seasoned I'd steer clear of any aggression like smacking.

The eyes, and a stare showing then you are the alpha will go a long way.

The dog is simply trying to find their spot on the pack. Misbehaving with no confrontation from it will let her think she's in control.

My wife and I need that bed. Both of our labs sleep on the bed with us, and the little one is getting bigger. Just over 5 months and over 60 lbs.
