Been getting asked about XMas. Was thinking of getting a stump vise. Useful, any one better than another?

I think I'll use it. Not really for field use I just like to sit outside to file weather permitting.

They're nice for maintenance touch ups/light filing every 3-4 tanks of fuel (or what ever you need) out in the woods. If you rock a chain and really have to work it, they can be a little unsteady for heavy filing.

That pretty much describes my needs. I sharpen just about that often and am cutting 2-3 cords a year plus yard cleanup so not very demanding. I have a fixed vise if needed.

Useful, yes. It comes in real handy when you want to touch up a chain in the field.

Never thought about one that much. Bought one last year, never file without it now.

image.jpeg I used mine a few times, but I found my tail gate mounted vise much much much more versatile and useful.

I just added one to an order from Amazon last week. I tossed it in my cutting field box last night, it seems like it'll be handy to have if I need to touch up a chain and can't get to a vise.
