Well yesterday my son and I laid the floor in the bedroom I've been working on since last winter. Yeah I'm slow. With no job right now, I am able to tackle these projects. I'll put a picture or two up later today. We just have the closet left and that should only take about an hour. With that room done, the dominos will start to fall on a bunch other moves. We moved our bedroom to the family room. Still need to move the wood stove. Roof is scheduled to be refinished in the next couple of weeks. Build a closet space where the wood stove sits today. Insulate the ceiling and put in new lighting. Solve heating problem for the winter - with the roof done and roof insulated, we might be fine with just the Pelonis box heater. The heat loss calculation should go down once the ceiling is insulated. At least that is my hope. Both girls have moved into our bedroom. When all of the moves are done, we'll move our clothes out of our old bedroom. My son is moving his bedroom to the third floor. Need to build his new bed and move his bureau to this room. His room is being converted into my office as well as some storage. The playroom will have more room for storage. While my son and I worked on the floor in the bedroom, my dad cut a hole for the new thimble. The old one was too low. Now we can move the wood stove from our bedroom down to the living room. Just about time as the temps are finally starting to drop to where they should be. I'll add a picture of the new thimble and then another when the wood stove has been put in place. Remember the rabbit hutch I've been working on? I'm hoping to either finish that this weekend, or in the beginning of the week. Need to make two doors and add one wall. Once the rabbits are moved, there are 4 cherry trees behind the old hutch that need to come down to provide more sunlight for our garden next year. Next on the list beyond that will be the load of logs. With no work right now, I've talked to my tree service friend and he's going to let me know of anyone that does not want him to remove the trees and then calls back to have them removed. I've gone back and forth on how to stack the wood in the front yard. Right now I am seriously considering a Holzhausen. I think most everyone knows I'll change my mind three or four more times before I actually get that done.

Floor looks great, boettg33 New thimble looks gooder too.... Stairs on one side, closet on the other=tight fit, eh? Say, does your chimney have a clay tile liner? You'll have that list done in no time!
Yes the chimney has a clay flu liner. As for the list, the wife is going in for a total knee and hip replacement in January. Essentially I am trying to tackle my list and also keep the house in order.
Ah, good. My thought was that the thimble looked to be inserted pretty deep, but the outside perimeter of your brickwork looks like there's probly a nice air gap in between? What's yer flu liner size? Ouch- that does put some immediacy to things for sure! Keep up the good work, boss!
The depth is due to layers of bricks. My dad added another layer of face bricks for ascetics to the living room when he bought the house. 9" X 12" is the FLU size.
We are moving the wood stove today. Everything is prepped. Just waiting for my son to get home to give us another set of hands. With any luck, we'll have the wood stove up and running tonight in the living room. This will begin our testing. I'll get a couple of pictures and throw them up later.
Here's one. Need to take another couple today. Amazingly moving the 560b wood stove from our bedroom on the second floor which is level with the backyard to the front of the house and into the living was far easier than I imagined. The appliance moving hand truck is rated to 600lbs. The only place it was tight was in the short hallway between the dinning room and the living room. More pics to follow. We'll have the pipe in place today and ready to fire it up tonight after coming home from Thanksgiving dinner with the family.
That door needs painting. I'll be going through the house Monday and making a list of all projects small and large. It's going to be a large list, but it's a place to start. Plus I'll feel good as I get some of them knocked off the list.
Oh I am ready to fire up the wood stove, but it was 63 at home today. Tomorrow it gets up to 52, but then drops to 30. We'll try it tomorrow night.
Wood tested yesterday, overnight and today. Temps in the room at 76 and steady. You could feel the warm air upstairs on parts of the second floor. Plus the furnace is not running. Yes I know oil prices are at an all time low for me. Knowing this I can move into full wood operations. Bedroom moves almost complete and a bunch of small projects are closing out. I broke the coffee table. It's a piece of junk. Thinking about trying to make one for a Xmas gift to the wife.
hope all this moving about works out for you. It is all about being comfortable. Been there, done that. We are way better off with the changes.
OMG what a day. Sorry no pics, but let me tell you I've been going all day long. My sons old room was a complete pig stye. I had more that I wanted to get done, but have to take what I can get. End result of today, we picked up the Xmas tree. Not up. Vacuumed the stairs, cleaned the shelfs in the living room, cleaned the windows in the living room, disinfected my sons old room and mopped the floor twice, cleaned the window in her new bedroom, our bedroom and the hallway, moved my daughters bed into the room and set it up. It's been one busy weekend, but I can tell you I feel good about what I accomplished. Mind you that all of these efforts are in attempt to get to C/S/S the current load of logs. Based on the results from running the wood stove this weekend, I'll be getting another load of logs right after I finish this one. Just trying to make the best use of my time while I am jobless. Hopefully this does not continue too long, but it's a great chance to get caught up on projects.
