I tried this with my x27, and the steel wire in the bead does damage the Fiskars. I haven't tried cutting it out. Greg
scooter422 Have you posted any other pics of the lean-to you use for your wood stacks? It looks to be very simple design and easy to build. More pics would be great. Thanks Erik B
I think some are missing the point, you shouldn't hit the tire. The axe handle is all that SHOULD hit the tire. If your that worried about missing I hope steel toe shoes with tarsal guards are being worn....
If you miss I would be more worried about driving the axe into a shin! I have several different size tires I use, looks like a used tire shop around the splitting stump! My L5 is shot, so the bending over to retrieve a run away split gets old fast.
As I told BWS................I don't miss.........................but I often wind up sinking my Fiskars into my splitting stump.......................sometimes near the edge, where the bead of the tire would be!!!! And if'n you're putting multiple logs inside the tire, you cannot help but be near the edge/bead when splitting!!! Just saying, not arguing!!!
I have used a bungy cord around a block of wood to keep the splits together, gets tricky till you master it but keeps you from repeatedly bending to pick them all up
My manual splitting trick is to pull the cord now. My other trick is bet my buddy $10 he can't split a cord three hours or less. Leave a gas can. Then I go drink some beer. Come back later after he does win , then "Bet You Can't Do It Again Double or Nothing" and I like to loose that one, congratulations here is your $20. "Next"!!
No, the Tom Sawyer that tricked his buddies into whitewashing the fence for him..... but yeah, good song.
Some skids 2x4s and some plywood. It is a quick setup and has held up good so far with these last couple winters.
I was looking for a video to post about splitting with a tire. Found this one of a lady with no spare tire at all chopping wood. Hope its not over the top. Plz delete if it is.
I must admit I enjoyed watching her, but my little Fiskars geared loppers are a lot less work and far more accurate for cutting up tiny branches like that. Since when is that stuff firewood?
Bunjee cord(usa made thick rubber) and and chain wraped around the round works great as well if not better.
