Yes, thats EXACTLY how it works. The caveat is that it runs most efficiently on low, i have no data to back it up but i think when i run a higher stat setting i get more of a pulse and glide, with the reloads that goa along with that style of burning.

I run as low as possible and do that constantly starting, well, now in previous years ut the weather here isnt permitting. I let it burn out about once per month to clean ashes out. And usually try to sweep the chimney twice per year. Sweepings are usually on my new years weekend and at the end of the burning season....

I do the same, I never pack the stove full. I've never cleaned the glass.

Hey man, by all accounts that englander you have is a serious contender too. Maybe the pulse and glide in there would be what you need..... and then let er rip when you need it? Mike (Mike Holton) at ESW is a truly good dude. If you need tips or advice you could always reach out to him. I know he's on that Hearth.com site as stoveguy2esw....

Pulse and glide is the technique of judging your heat load and estimating how much fuel to load based on your assesment. Things to consider are your house temp and the forecasted outdoor weather conditions. The pulse would be the hot short fire that quickly raises house temps and then slowly radiates the heat of a hot stove without an active fire.

    Usually a shoulder season technique

    Ahh, THAT pulse and glide.
Do that every day, but have never heard the term.

Yea, not a thing to do with a BK stove. Low and slow. Like a good wine, or a hot date.

And back in topic, my princess glass is dirtier Than my $10 underwear. The cool glass condenses the smoke, the rest of the inside is a caked mess of hard creosote, even a hot fire usually isn't enough to clean it up. I use 0000 steel wool to buff it clean..... stove is in the basement so pretty isn't important, just need to see the progress of the burn.

Why on earth does the ash lip on the bk point down? The nc30, and I believe others, point up so as to collect ash.

I own an nc30 and a princess. Been burning both every day all week. The nc30 has a pulse and glide output no matter what you do. It's a noncat and that's just how they run.

I asked you very nicely to take the spy cam outta my house.:picard:
Yep, the 30 lip flips up on the front edge. My old Ashley ash lip had a ridge all the way around except on the left end, and that was shaped almost like a sluice so you could brush ash off into a container. It was cast iron too.

40°, low, slow, smolder, black glass burns cycles still
    3/4 loads lasting 24 + hours.
Gonna have to do a "Coals burn-down" & overheat the house soon.

Can see kinda what's left after last night's 3/4 load.
    40° out, house 73°
Stove's temp is too hot to sit on ! LOL :D

No problem letting it go till this evening , plenty of heat output to go.
