PS, my 1st college room mate in a tiny dorm room loved potato soup but could not "digest" it well, and the cafeteria served it often.. Too bad Beano was not around back then:rofl:

I was going to go to Kmart tomorrow, but the one here does not have a cafeteria/grill anymore. Not worth the trip without breakfast special.

I remember loading in floppy disk to play Doom and having to buy 4 gigs of ram for 150 $ . Happy Thanksgiving everyone .

    Fully agree TT.

G, if you replaced just the OS drive in that laptop, you'd be a Happy Camper. :D

In case anyone's interested, Staples is selling the Seagate Backup Plus Slim Portable USB 3.0 External Hard Drive - 1TB only (no cloud storage) for $ 39.99, which is an excellent deal.

To get it, you need to go to Staples.com, select your local store, and view the local Weekly Ad, then select the drive in the advertisement, to get that price.

It's been nice to read about all the systems and equipment you guys & gals have worked on - you are all really OLD.  :p

Will's beautiful Beer picture is making me thirsty, all the wonderful food pictures are making me hungry. And I'm at work, again.

But it's cool, still lot's of IT stuff to do, and I've got the systems all to myself. ....... Gotta get busy.

Hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving Day, it was an excellent one here.

Right now, I am trying to decide between the 500gb Crucial BX100 for 119 or the Samsung 850 EVO for 147. The BX has no cloning software, so that is a consideration. the MX200 and EVO are neck and neck in pricing so Samsung wins there.

Regarding the Seagate backup, it was sold out 2 hours ago, but Amazon has it for 39 bucks too and in stock-I have one in the cart right now

Samsung warranty is 5 years vs 3 years for Crucial.....

Does it sound like I am trying to justify the Samsung? :D

Really trying to decide if its worth the extra $$ since I would need 2 drives for the I7-2820 laptop and one for my PC- 4 year old AMD 965 Black Edition. Man I wish I went with Intel instead of thinking AMD might excel 4 years ago with their new CPU structure.

It does, just a little.. :D

Either will serve you well, including the Sandisk Ultra II - out of the many SSD drives I've installed for customers over the past several years, I have yet to have a single SSD drive failure reported.

One drive received was in damaged packaging: it went back as an immediate return / never installed. (If I wouldn't put it in my computer, it wasn't going in a customer's system.) Two systems had a compatibility issue w/ the earlier MX100 drive series and the 1st Firmware Rev., which was addressed by performing a BIOS update on their systems, and a Firmware update on the SSD. That's it.

Both daughters are running Crucial MX200 SSD drives in their laptops (older Dell Inspirons), they just work well. And they use these computers -a lot- at school, for work and recreation. I use them in the development laptops & desktops here. I rely on them for their performance.

Clients I've installed Samsung 850 series drives for are also very happy, no issues there either. Clients I've installed Kingston SSDNow drives for are also very happy, another excellent low-price point value SSD drive that TT recommended.

You're tech-savvy, so you know common sense applies: you should back up (or image) any drive periodically, on a monthly/semi-monthly schedule if it's a 'recreational' computer, or more frequently, depending on the content (or value) of the information stored. Nothing changes there when using a SSD vs. a traditional Disk Drive. ( Practice Safe Computing! )

But as far as the 'horror stories' you read on the 'interwebs' occasionally about SSDs randomly dying - haven't seen it here. And I've installed quite a few of them. I'm not saying it doesn't happen: there is a certain failure rate with any product, but providing the product is shipped correctly, and proper (static) precautions are taken during installation, it should be an issue-free install. That's why I can recommend both brands to you with confidence.
