My newer 362 has a couple of quirks. First on a cold first start I get quite a puff of blue smoke. Run it up a couple times and the smoke is gone. Second is sometimes when the saw is shut down at normal operating temps and I try to restart in a couple of minutes it won't start unless the throttle is wide open. This only happens maybe 40-50% of the time. Somewhere I read this is a somewhat common problem in new 362's related to being too rich, however I don't remember where I found that info. Im not sure how that would work with the M-tronic system. The saw is under warranty but I'd like to get some info before I take it in for service. Thanks team!
My saw loads up on fuel pretty good on a cold start...and blows some smoke for the first 15 or 20 seconds. I'd rather over fuel than under fuel when the saw is cold and vulnerable so I don't see this as a problem. I run 40ish:1 mix. On a warm start I give the rope a half hearted pull and it fires right up every time. What position are you putting the control switch in on a warm start? When in doubt push it down.
According to stihl, on the new mtronics saw there is only one start position warm or cold. That is with control switch down.
There is only 1 position to start the 362. Blue smoke everytime in the cold for a few seconds then she's good. I burned about 10 tanks so far and it's starting to kick more and more, just the way I like it
Mine is really starting to find its grove after about 7-8 fill ups. Just give it some time it will be fine. I agree with Lukem, when in doubt push it down.
As to the smoke on cold start ..... All my saws do that ,it's a good thing imho . That's the residual oil from the crankcase burning off ,and your bearings saying thank you .
Try warm start in the down "start" position. My 261CM is exactly the opposite, it needs to warm start in "run".????
The smoke is not a problem The second that the saw dont start maybe sometimes the carb needle stuck then unstuck itself and the saw start, i have see this in many saws specialy in 170-180 i think cleaning the carb and inspect the all system that it keep the needle i know that Mtronic tuning itself perfect so beeing rich or something i cant understand
To those who want an Arctic model? There is one on eBay now. This would make a great winter firewood machine! !
Okay, based in your responses its a case of crainial-rectal inversion, a.k.a operator error. Later this weekiI'll get the saw up to normal operating temperature, shut it down and let it sit for a few minutes before I'll movee the start switch all the way down and try starting it that way.
