We got a couple small frozen turkey breasts last shopping trip, and those will go in the oven in a timely fashion to enjoy at a dinnertime yet to be determined on Thursday. Add some mashed potatoes, and veggies........I'm a happy camper.
Thursday morning will be breakfast for the whole extended family at my brothers house. Good thing he has a big house. Everyone will bring something. I'm cooking five pounds of bacon and wife will be making a hash brown casserole. Then the big turkey dinner at our house about 6pm with my wife's parents. In between those two meals will be some slow paced out door work. Firewood of course! For next year to begin. And, at some point, there may be a little "lay down" as my old friend use to say.
Finished product of a southern maryland stuffed ham Its good warm or cold. Makes delightful sandwiches. My wife is making split pea soup with the leftover broth and some bits of ham
Going to my in laws , 2 turkeys, ham, lamb, albanian calzones stuffed with feta cheese, albanian grappa, stuffing, gravy and I'll see what else they make, I'll take pics on Thursday
This year we'll have 11. Should be nice and laid back... weather looks good too for all who are driving here. 14 lb bird and the fixins'...
What a nice thing to do. Greater to serve than be served. I'm a Canuck so ours is long gone but I'll watch the Packers/Bears and Lions/Eagles.
Well, Mother in-law called to ask advice on buying prime rib last night (ex-butcher here) and I ended up offering to smoke a prime rib for Thanksgiving! Might through on a pit ham as well, for sandwiches at deer camp first weekend in December.
Well, not a ture "pit" ham... the guys I worked with at the locker where all old-time Hormel workers in the big slaughter house... they had a term for the boneless "hams" made from "ham scraps"... they where "pit hams"... cause they where made from the scrap pit... sound yummy!
Well, with the cold rain and wind this morning, I decided to play it safe and roast the prime rib in the oven.... Prepped ready for the oven... Out at 120° will keep cooking on its own up to 135° or so while in foil, then will rest back down to 125-130° and be ready for lunch at noon. Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
Well, my wife is on her way to have turkey and the usual southern sides with her dad's side of the family. Me and the dogs will stay at the house. Too far of a ride for my comfort level just yet. Maybe I'll get a plate of leftovers. Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
Just a small family thing for us at my parents house this year. First time in 3 years that I haven't cooked the bird - I had to do the dessert this year.
