Here we are doing a few different things, the big one is a group of our friends coming over Saturday to watch football and have a friendsgiving dinner. I'm putting a turkey in the fryer, baked ham, and smoking a turkey breast.
I gotta work, but took off Saturday for the opening of shotgun season. Gonna try to sneak out without my 4 year old hearing me and my older boy. I'm kinda a sucker and can't tell him no you can't go too.
Thanksgiving day ill be picking up my mom and heading to wyomissing, pa (near Reading). She is not making a dinner due to her age/health, but would enjoy going out to a restaurant, so thats the plan. Might head out for a deer over the holiday weekend.
I'm going to put a 20lb turkey on the Egg. We're having a combined Thanksgiving with our neighbors. My wife works at a small local university so we also invite some students who are unable to go home for Thanksgiving.
37 of us this year. We have 2 stuffed hams and 4 turkeys. Doing the turkeys several different ways fried, brined and smoked is what I know. Probably have some oysters raw before dinner and the other usual suspects as sides. Can't wait its my favorite holiday!
Smoking a 20 pounder for dinner with the inlaws and wife's side of family. Going to use the weber smokey mountain. Only the 2nd turkey I've ever smoked. A little worried about the time frame issue. Last one I did was in 80 degree weather on a clear and windless day.
Noon-1sh dinner here. My nephew has to be at his GF's for another dinner at 4 o'clock. Which is fine, because I can head next door for the rest of the football game and dinner #2 My neighbors are awesome. And they've already made it clear they want a bit of turkey off the Akorn.
We met up with the kids and Gkids at Zehnders for a nice GTG yesterday. Nice day, but a long one. I slept well last night. For those not familiar....................... Two birds being roasted. Lots of family invited, no real idea about who wills show up. We have two full kitchens to do the cooking in. Should be fun.
Simple T-day planned here, keeping things quiet. My mom comes over and we spend the day with her, a 18lb bird should do the trick with all the fixings. Then I'll take a plate to my dads place and feed him. Local football game in the am and pro football after dinner. Very relaxing (I hope)
Its a southern maryland thing. We get together every year for the all day a fair. Chop all the kale, cabbage and onions by hand. Then gets mixed with all the seasoning then stuffed into the ham. Then you boil the ham for about 6-8 hours. Its delicious lots of work but soooo good. Recipe Everybody chopping Mix in big bins I wil have to get a pic of the finished product for ya
For the first time in a couple decades we are not doing a feast, we were invited and going instead! Previously when we lived close to family we would do the celebrating on a different day with them, but still our own on thursday. This year is laying laminate flooring, and enjoying another ones hosting
Thats amazing! I love how the whole crew is helping! I guess the real question is, can I get there by the time the feast starts?
I'm cooking (yes me) for about 8 folks. Going non-traditional ......... but honoring the big bird. Everything will have some turkey in it. Using fresh breast for "turkey parmesan" over spaghetti, turkey polish kielbasa sausage with squash raviolis w alfredo sauce & mushrooms, Szechuan turkey stir fry with the usual veggies, turkey bacon wrapped brussel sprouts, you get the idea!
