Good on you taking the lab in and contacting the owner. It could've ended not so good being on a busier road.

    Maple update:

Maple continues to heal and is doing pretty good. She is scheduled to have her sutures removed tomorrow evening. I do however have some concerns......

-one particular area of her incision looked a little raw today. About a 1/4" where a stitch is. It has since scabbedover again, and I will certainly point this out to the vet tomorrow.

    - she seems to have lost a little weight, which I think would be normal due to reduced quantity of prescription meals on top of an intestinal surgury. She ate quite ravinously tonight. I even gave her a bit extra.

-We noticed a bit of aggression toward Dawn when Maple was told no, as well as an aggressive pounce on Saucy while he was eating. (I refrained from using the word attack, but it was aggressive in nature). Our only thoughts are, Maples last pain and anti inflammation medication was yesterday. Perhaps there is a bit of an addiction that Maple was dealing with?

These will all be things we dicuss at the vet tomorrow. Anyone else see any similar problems post surgery, post medication? savemoney papadave wildwest? Thanks!

After I had the surgery on my left elbow, I remember being a little guardy of my supper plate when ever my wife came near it, but it only lasted a couple of days........................

Must've been the growling that kept her away?

Maple might be feeling the hormonal changes from the sterilization which is probably mixing with the drugs. Vet should be able to let you know whats going on.............................

Apologize, this is over my head medically wise. Could it be food aggression, like she was jealous Saucy was still getting his favorite food while she was getting the Rx food? Is she still on restricted play/running, maybe her confinement is upsetting her? Still odd she approached a chichi, they are are pretty dominant and chessies are not..... You also mentioned some growling when you visited her after surgery, interesting.

Personally, I have not seen aggression after surgeries in any of my 9 dogs. I had one dog that was antsy on prednisone.... I think your vet will be your best source for this. A scab over some sutures was not cause for concern when I worked in the vet clinic.

I wonder if DaveGunter has seen any of it?

    Hmmmm.........

Maybe she still has some pain (dogs are extremely tolerant to pain) or a "coming down" from the lack of pain meds. Thanks wildwest

Ill also add, she has never been food aggressive. In fact, her food is a hard soft mix (looks better than the usual stuff) and she had less stools than before, so either there is something wrong (which I doubt) or the food is better, her body using more of it, thus reducing the stool amount.

Your sweet milleo , will do! I agree, i dont believe she feels too hot, maybe no more meds, so she feels some pain, and withdrawal symptoms.

Edit: Her appt is around 730 tomorrow evening.....

I definitely think the vet may pass on removing any sutures, imo. Notice the upper part seems to be having trouble healing properly. The rest looks good.

Yeah, that may take a bit longer, but I don't see any inflammation or redness, so it looks to be healing quite well.
    Good puppy.

Its good to hear that. I wonder if it gets glued prior to sutures?
