A member here is giving me an Englander NC-13 stove. I was told: "Kimberly this is the older 5 year? model nc-13. so it does not have new baffles on top just a plate.... just an FYI I have blower but not an OAK..." So my questions are; do I need to get the baffles for this stove? What do I need for the outside air hookup? I was planning on making the hole for the outside hair hookup at the time I open the wall to construct the thimble box. I am building the chimney using supervent through the wall kit.
I have an NC 30 (same stove, just deeper) and I built an OAK out of 3 inch heavy duty corrugated flexible metal vent line, some hose clamps, and some hardware cloth for the end to keep critters out. Simple. They sell the OAK online at Englander. You can do a search here on FHC to get an idea of what people have done to install OAKs on Englander stoves. Not sure what you mean by baffles. Do you mean the secondary air tubes? If it was not built with them, there is no easy way to retrofit them. If they are missing you can order a set and install them with new top panels.
I am not sure about this either; just what was told to me. Perhaps a message to the stove manufacturer will help here.
I am pretty sure its either the secondary injector tubes, or the fiberboard baffle plates that sit on top of them. They have not changed the design in many years. These are they: The fiberboards (there are two of them) rest side by side on top of the cross air injector tubes at the top of the firebox. They can be ordered from Englander if they are missing (not cheap though).
Both of my NC-13's had the fiberboards... the first one would have been about that age. The OAK set is there on the back (should be like a tube sticking out the rear probably a couple of inches if I remember correctly. I'll look later), you should have to just provide the parts to take it from the stove to the outside world. I'm going to toss mike holton into this thread to see if he can give you more insight. Thank you in advance Mike...
You do need the ceramic fiber boards above the secondary tubes. other wise everything goes right up the flue with no secondary action.
My stove had fiberboard but it was damaged. So I put a metal baffle in my stove and it works just as good. I don't have an NC-13 stove.
