This afternoon I unloaded a ton of Uncle Jed's Softwoods… I was down to one bag of UJ's Southern Hardwoods and couldn't wait to use that last bag… this last batch that I bought were awful. Well I am pleasantly surprised… these things burn very hot! These are a spruce/pine mix. I have used them in the past but not in the last five years. Almost zero fines… I will probably use one more ton thise season since I'm heating the shop again. I look forward to not having a big clinker in my burn pot every 12 hours.
I heard rumors that Uncle Jeds are bulk purchased La Crete's. Personally I liked them better than the Okies. La Crete's rock!
First cleaning after pouring in the Uncle Jed's Softwoods. I have to say I am very impressed! First of all no more clinkers… and, maybe, 20% of the ash that the old UJ Southern Hardwoods had. Five days without opening the door and there was, maybe, 1/2 cup of ash in and around the burn pot… and about 1" of ash in the pan…. very nice. If you have these available to you buy some….
LOL. I'm sure they do. On the serious side though, I was curious if you had any of the auger jam issues with them like you did with the hardwood?
