So I started a thread on another site and it's done well. Post pics of what you cut today. Feel free to add pic of the equipment you used as well, or you can just mention what you used. So yesterday I was able to get out in the timber....finally.....for 1 load. I'm fortunate I don't need a lot this year, as I've got tons of things going on stopping me from spending more time cutting and splitting. So found what I thought was burr oak, but after doing some cutting I think it was red oak. It was heavy stuff and starting to rot on one side, but a lot of good wood left in it. Couldn't get the trailer close enough to the splitter so ended up having to cart it. Ranger got a good workout as well as the cart. This is my cutting and splitting buddy. We were getting about 2 rows stacked on the trailer per cart load. This is the day's progress. Could have added more volume wise, but weight wise I think we were pretty heavy! Also scored some type of elm that I will be trying my 6 way wedge out on. I hope to get some video of that in the next day or so. Equipment used: 441c ported, new 661c (almost 3 tanks through), second splitting with the new splitter, Ranger, tandem axle cart Buddy just used his stock 441c. Used some 20" tongs to drag wood to the splitter and some smaller tongs for the smaller stuff. Was a productive day and well saw and splitter therapy is always good for you!!
Similar to my set up where I go into the woods in a State cutting area & get several loads every Oct. Done for the year, the trail to the cutting area is iced/snowed over & too slick to pull with my setup Couple pics form last month.
oh got some today.. finish tomorrow night just a big old ash that was down at neighbors he said I could have before it rotted. Had a buddy's 461 with 28 bar not in pic laying down was over 38 inches cause my inseam is 33. Why he gave it to me he says too big to cut and split. 200 yards over property line some punk but mostly good Kubota mx 5000 stihl 461
This is what I cut today: Pretty nice, no punk, split and stacked real easy... Used 576xp for felling/bucking, 445 to clean up tops.... Champion 22T splitter, truck, wife.... Yes... I'm losing it
This was my afternoon, just for fun. This came from a decorative ash, in the yard of my brother-in-law's rental. Twisted, knotty, and just plain ornery. Found out that, while it eats pine like candy, my little Earthquake electric five ton stalls out just looking at stuff like that. Time for a full sized splitter. Thanks Took a few years to get it dialed in, find a trailer Works good for a one oldman crew. Just takes alot more hours & ibuprofen than it used to
It's been sitting in rounds, for a year, while I tried to figure out how to get it split, in a non-herniating manner. Time to start looking at something like a Ramsplitter electric, or maybe a kinetic of the same sort. I have really close neighbors, and like to split at odd hours, like early morning and after supper.
I like the quietness of the electric kinetic. Don't like the herniating need to lift logs onto it.... Especially since I just had a double fixed 4 days ago.
Welcome to the club WriteNoob One thing I found with my electric splitter, if you start splitting a round, around the edges just like you would when hand splitting, doing it that way you can split up stuff that won't work at all if you go after it dead center. If it won't split at first read the grain reposition, try it again. My 7 ton would split up gnarly, knotty wood if I positioned it properly, even elm
