okay. i have an echo cs600p 20" which will handle most of my firewood work. what about a companion as a backup and for little stuff, was thinking of an echo cs310 which should be fine. you all are into all kinds of brands and will be able to make other recommendations. the thing with echo is dumb, works, lasts, starts, the whole lack of drama and hair pulling. for a chainsaw that's a good moment.
Just picked up a Stihl 241 this week. Pretty excited to get it out and see what it will do. Its a nice size and the power to weight ratio is pretty good too. you can check out this thread New saw search | Firewood Hoarders Club
I hope it runs and cuts better then the new echo 310 I had in for chain. It was a turd in the cut. I really was shocked how poor it was in the twigs 6" under. I swear something had to be wrong with it. IMO test before you buy.
My small saw want list is. Stihl 192 rear handle Echo cs 361p, cs 400 or 450 Dolmar ps 421 I would buy any of them without hesitation Unless super light is your goal I would focus on the 40cc saws. Usable power and light enough to swing around.
you guys are all right. i went into h/d today and put my hands on all of them. the cs400 felt best. 40cc is a good place to be. i was a little put off by the low profile chain but i guess you can get the oregon chain with the longer cutter. honestly you can look for a small saw and wind up getting a 70cc saw as the whole thing starts and ends with the chain cutters. this may sound dumb but that's the way i mostly do things. i never mind weight on the big saws because they are the business.
Echo 400 40cc I hear is suppose to be close to my 39cc 3900. If so get you a loop of stihl PS PS3. That 3/8LP little picco chain rocks. Best LP chain out there for the little saws IMO. All I sell to folks anymore unless they want semi by special request. My 12" bar wouldnt cut all the way through the super dry harden ash log but you get the idea.
I love my cs400, it has blasted through everything I put in front of it. I touch up the chain every tank or two of gas and it cuts like butter. I did put a different chain on that looks a little more aggressive than the stock chain.
