I travel too much and need awd, Been looking at them since the fall of 2012 swamped us with snow. When I looked at the local subbie dealer inventory, I inquired about what my car might fetch for a trade in. With almost 90K a 2010 isn't getting all that much $$$. So, I figured I'd keep it and give it to him instead. I mean we know this one history and to trade it in for a few thousand only to go looking for one we have nw clue on how it was maintained? Yeah, I might put some $$$ in my pocket, But would I only shell it out in repairs to the unknown??

Its paid for and I can take the collision off if need be. It should last him a few years if he doesn't wreck or abuse it. And less worries for mom. ;)

Back in the day it was 4 door cars and good grades earned discounts on insurance, not sure if they still do that.....

Its got 4 doors and its only a 4 cylinder. He gets good grades and is going through drivers ed, So I think he'll get a discount.

My honey got her 17 year old a 2011 Chevy Malibu with low miles on it. A month or two ago, a hail storm dinged the heck out of it causing 5-6K in damage. Insurance is paying for it but she is not having it repaired-using the check towards the car's loan payment. When she asked the adjuster if she should repair it, he asked who was driving it. "17 year old with a new license? I wouldnt"

Unfortunately she tried to cash the check at the same bank that has the loan. They told her it HAD to be repaired and woulnt cash the check. She even told them to apply the whole amount to the loan-nope. She used the check, added the rest in and paid off the loan.

My ex's son was telling me how he spun out in the snow and it scared him a bit-no crash and he wasnt hurt, just shaken up a little. I told that was a good thing that he wasnt hurt and a bit shaken, try and learn from what you did to cause that-along with a few pointers. And DONT tell your mother this happened.

Yeah, if you have a loan, the lien holder gets a say in how the check is used. A lot of times both the lien holder's name is part of the payee - so they have to "sign" it too. They want their collateral in as good a condition as possible in case they have to reposses. If there is no loan, then you get to spend the money however you wish.

so looking around i see (much to my pleasure) a distinct lack of threads about cheap oil and people not burning pellets because they are too expensive etc... i in no way want to start that conversation. for me, it's moot.
pellets are and will remain my choice. my old forced air dino burner will never be able to provide the comfort and efficiency of dear old helga.

but i have to confess, i just today bought 100 gallons of oil.
i feel so dirty. really, ick.
i haven't bought oil since 2008 back in oregon.

but i want to keep the 1/4 tank we have from getting old sitting there for so long, and also have a decent amount for emergency back up if we ever need it.
hopefully this $197 is the last i'll ever spend on this stuff.

edit to add - i'll run the beast for a while after everything settles, to at least get some fresh oil into all the lines.
