I have little desire to mess with a 4' tree any more than I have to. But when I do, I take my 056 super and I don't want to lug that thing anymore then I have to. I am glad the majority of my tree's are 24" and smaller.

You don't need to own land to need a big saw. There is plenty of scrounge just begging for someone to come along with a saw that can handle it. We have all seen it. The 3 foot diameter trunk that lays there forever except for the bit someone scrounged off the top where it was down closer to a foot diameter.

I picked up a 261 for my firewood saw and am now looking for a 046/460 to complement it. I also use a little 180 for the small brush type stuff.

OP: like the handle and avatar. I drove a modified XJ for a long time. When I sold it I was running 33x12.50s on a locked Dana 44 in the rear and 30 up front. Had a Rubicon Express superflex kit under it, never made the upgrade to long arms, but wanted to. Those little XJs just won't lay down.

I understand RE isn't what they use to be now-a-days? Sorry for the sidetrack.

Lots of good info here, thank you all.

I did find a local Echo dealer, not much to offer and the owner is a complete bung hole.
Only about 1/4 mile down the road from where i work at.
Still havent made it over to the stihl dealer.
Just havent had a minute to spare.

RE isnt too bad, every company is known for something, RE has its own thing.
    I built my lift.
Rear was coil sprung, had stock front springs in the rear.
Front springs were 4.5" RE springs for an LJ and i had 2" spacers.
I built bumpers for it front and rear, had a 12k winch on it from HF.
Put a fuel cell in it behind the back seat.
Made my own frame stiffeners and rock sliders.
I had an 8.8 rear that was welded and the stock 30 up front that was open.
I put 37x13.50 pitbull rockers on it.

Ended up selling it though a few months ago.
Wanted to put boat sides on it, a hybrid exo cage, 14b in the rear and a 60 up front.
Just ran out of interest. Last time out with it i completely tore off the left front.
Crested a rock ledge with some speed and met a tree.

It was fun though, the unibody thing got old.
I met alot of cool people, wheeled at alot of cool places and saw alot of cool things.
I'll build something else before my days are done though im sure.

Before you spend money on a new saw buy a sharpening jig, something like a granberg http://www.amazon.com/Granberg-Bar-Mount-Chain-Sharpener-G-106B/dp/B0002ZY1WG
They are easy to use and get chains near perfect remember to file rakers every few sharpenings.

Where is the majority of your wood hoarding done? We all want the badest tool on the block for a job - but when you consider how much you will actually use the tool(think ROI and enjoyment) having a $500-1000 saw sitting around for weeks may not make sense, further compounded by port-pushers:rofl:

Well i live in a residential neighborhood.
However, when i gather wood, i try and make sure it is cut to length before i bring it home.
I try to keep my saw use to minimal while at home.

I gather wood mostly from craigslist or local landscape recycling centers.

I went to the local ag store a short while ago, looked at a brand new 362c, listed for $749.
Havent done any shopping around, not sure if thats a good price or not.

Just remember that the 290 is really corked up exhaust wise from the factory. Fix that, and it will run like it's supposed to. You may think you have a new saw, from what I hear.

My 029 is a super, so it's got more displacement, and more power. But even the 290 is a different animal from the regular 029 anyway. I find the weight of the 029 to be totally acceptable.

I do want more power though. Using my buddy's 460 magnum didn't help my urges.

Horkn is right, if you're not looking for s night and day power difference then a muffler mod and re-tune may help. But be forewarned that it will not turn it into anything resembling a 70cc saw.

I hear you there ! I of coarse...don't seek out anything over 20" :). I prefer the 10" to 16" variety . Never had the back for that cool big stuff :(

I spent 15 years only owning a 50cc saw. I joined here...and realized that it's OK to have a bigger saw ....even if i didnt need a bigger bar. Slapped a smaller bar on her and went to town ! Who knew this kind of behavior was acceptable !!! lol :) The option is there for a bigger bar if I should ever please though.
Like the 266se here in the pic . loving the 18" bar she wears. It's probably overkill for the smaller stuff I cut....but boy is it fun ....and that's the whole point !!Here's a pic of the old girl from today erik vw ! Shes getting treated very well :) Thanks again buddy. IMG_20151116_093416997_HDR.jpg IMG_20151103_134853697.jpg
