Back again, and now interested in a non cat stove (unless one fits the bill to follow) is a modern looking stove like the PE Neo 2.5, but don't know all the choices out there. I'm looking to heat 1,300 sq. ft. on a main level, and due to the open design of the home and stairwell, I'm not overly concerned with the upstairs (750 sq. ft.) 2 bedrooms. House is unique, outsulation, and insulation, 9.5" walls, super tight, super insulated.

Can only read limited press on the Neo 2.5 wood stove. Assume same box as insert. Reviews on insert are not good, plenty of issues with unbalanced burn. That would drive me nuts, so I'm hoping to find a stove that in my ripe old age I don't have to bend over to the floor to load with the benefit of an assumed better viewing off the couch with the raised box.

Overnight burn preferred, so 2.1 or larger box. My ideal stove would be a stove with the reputation of the Super 27, with modern raised design and side load for cleanliness and max stuffing of wood for longer burn time.

Anything out there like this? Thanks

How about a Quadra-fire Adventure 2 stove with a programmable thermostat?

I'm not aware of any side load modern stoves. Some other stoves to look at would be the osburn matrix and enerzone destination. Blaze King has the Chinook 20 and 30 which are cat stoves.

IIRC Machria was looking at modern stoves in his shopping. He might know some more models to look at.

Good memory concrete...... That was a while ago and another site ago... ;)

Very hard item to find. I shopped the hell out of it looking for a modern, but long burn time stove.... Best thing I found was the PH, and while I love how it looks, it could be more "contemporary" looking for my taste.

I found lots of really cool contemporary stoves, especially from Euro companies... But none offered long burn and high output specs like the woodstock.

Another modern looking Quadrafire is the 3100
3100 Limited Edition AU Wood Stove

Thanks fella's, I'll look into those stoves. Although we're building a replica bungalow style home here in Bozeman MT, the interior is going to be a bit more contemporary with less polished wood, bordering on rustic with steel accents. The stove is smack dab in the midst of things and therefore has to "fit in" and function as a heater. I stick with my desire for a stove similar to the PE NEO (any of the 3 flavors of that box) with a reputation that is solid, and a side load option would be a HUGE bonus. Sure wish there were more reports on the NEO 2.5 stand alone burner with some video' on you tube of the fire show. I would think PE would be aware of the negative press, and if not true, would post some video on you tube to quench the bad press.

It is available in US, but I think only exclusively to email mailing list members or something. I got an email about it, with a code to enter in to order it. I'd forward the email or give you the code, but I deleted it and don't recall the code.

I had/have a similar problem, I have a somewhat contemporary look, but with lots of light colored wood work splashed in. The PH and soapstone fits right in nicely with the addition of the somewhat color matched slate tile work. You may be able to fit more styles / colors than you think when you add in the hearth stone work....

Had that fired up last weekend! Coconut popcorn oil, a good popcorn, and a sprinkle of popcorn salt and you have one of the best snacks known to man kind! ;) Goes great with a nice single malt! :D

Like you, we did not want to have to bend to fill the stove or empty ashes. We settled on raising the hearth 16" and bought a Woodstock Fireview. Our house is not as large as yours so you would no doubt love the Progress Hybrid better as it is larger. On the raised hearth, it is perfect as you can see our wood rack is on the small porch very close to the stove. We have a chair by the stove so when I bring wood in, it is placed on the hearth by the firebox door then I sit and fill the stove. It is perfect height for this.

Also like you, we feared a cat stove after reading some bad reports. A long story short, we ended up with a cat stove and absolutely love it. We still laugh at those who say the cat stove is complicated. OMG! There are actually 2 controls on the stove. If it is complicated to move 2 levers, those folks should never attempt to operate a wood stove no matter what it is. This thing is so simple to operate a child can easily do it and the learning curve is really super short.

btw, the pans on the stove have applesauce in them. This is how my wife makes applesauce and applebutter. She also does a good deal of cooking on the stove which makes me very happy.

It's not that I don't want a cat stove per say, it's just that my criteria of wanting to enjoy a fire show eliminates all but the Woodstock product. Sadly my wife is not in favor of the looks of any of their product line. I happen to like the Progress Hybrid quite a lot, but she feels it won't fit the decor. I'm leaning toward the PE Neo 2.5 or the Quadrafire 3100 Limited Edition. My newly constructed home is 1,300 sq. ft. on the main living level and 750 sq. ft. upstairs, and is very well outsulated and insulated. Even though the floor plan is open, the living room portion where the stove sits is 16' x 14', the 14' is the end of the "area' that continues open out to the balance of the space. Really don't want a stove that is going to cook us out of that space, actually concerned that a 2.5 cu. ft. box is too damm big.

Does PE still have the Fusion? Modern style, Super Series firebox, like the 27.

Side loading may be a pipe dream in a modern looking stove.

Another modern stove similar to what you interested in. I was seriously considering this Enerzone before I found the PH...

I miss Bozeman, lived there for 5 years. Keep in mind its mostly lodge pole pine that is available. Had a small stove in the cabin I lived in out in Gallatin Gateway, had very short burn times with the pine, 5 hours max. I can't remember what it was, but it was a newer epa free standing stove.

Even with great insulation, I doubt 2.5 would be too large. The trouble with smaller fireboxes is they won't hold fire very long and in winter when the days are short and the nights are long and cold, that is when we appreciate the larger fireboxes.
