The Honda CRV is popular around here right now, AWD - decent cargo room, can put stuff up top (canoes, etc.) See quite a few of them on the road.

Always lots of Foresters and Outbacks, and Toyotas (Trucks, RAV4, etc.).

( If I was looking for a 'people' mover vs. a 'cargo' mover, that Subaru Impreza is a very nice ride.. )

The most popular car driven by home care nurses around here is the Subaru. That ought to tell you a lot. They used to be rust buckets but I think most of that is over now.

Steer clear of Nissan, my friend. Subaru, Honda, or "Yota if you want a rice burner.

Yeah, bought an '87 4-Runner brand new and had it for 13 years and 307k miles. Sold it privately and saw it being driven around a couple years later. Ex bout a 2000 Tacoma brand new. He just traded it in last winter - had to been around 250k miles on that thing

I insist on having 4WD. That is one of the reasons I bought the Patriot, it was a people mover and was the 4WD model (and manual transmission, which I wanted), not the more popular AWD. I did give the AWD a chance, but I found that AWD just doesn't work well with my driving style.

I had a 97 Subaru Legacy wagon that I bought in 99 with about 60K miles. Replaced the clutch around 180K (noisy pilot or throw bearing but still worked fine), the timing belt shortly after and a coil pack.
At 302K miles it was still running well but needed a cat converter to pass inspection. I still sold it for 500 bucks. Loved that car-I never stay home for bad weather, even with a 1.5 hour normal commute. That thing got me to work in the ice storm of 99 and all snow storms. If I got home to 6-8 inches of snow, it would plow through it (uphill) and into the garage.

I've never had a red vehicles before, now I have two - the bike is Merlot Sunglow (burgundy in the shade that turns red in the sun), and now the SUV. Red is cop bait too  and out of 3 bikes this is the only one I've been pulled over on, and I've also been followed a couple times (yeah, they were sitting in the median of the hiway and decided to pull out, catch me, then just follow even though I wasn't going any faster than other traffic ). Gotta be careful with this Red truck; it is an automatic (haven't had that since 1987) so I can't estimate my speed by gear and feel/sound; and it is taller than the Jeep, which makes the scenery seem to go by slower at the same speed.

Going from the Subaru with all the time AWD to the Honda with the "on demand" AWD took some getting use to. What I have found is you MUST turn off the traction control function when its snowing-it hinders far more than it helps. And as with all vehicles-good tires !!

I do miss the all the time version as well as a manual transimission though.

Especially for anyone trying to get up Mont Vernon hill, past the 149 scenic view, or a few other hills I drive on a regular basis.

I wanted a Subaru last time we traded, but the wife wouldn't even look at them. She wanted to sit higher up. Plus she wanted lots of leg room. We ended up with a Grand Caravan. For two retired folks, this car has been fine. We don't go in the snow, or have to be anywhere most anytime. Plus the seats drop into the floor so cargo isn't an issue. My excuse for the truck is gone most of the time. Draw back is that the van is so big. It does get really good gas mileage. Always gets up over the big hill we live on. This is the 5th van she has owned so there isn't much hope of moving her into anything else. :picard:

Today we honor those who served and serve.

Please take a moment to contemplate their sacrifice so that we may live the lives we choose.

We are blessed to be visited for the next few days by my son and his family. He served 12 years as a Seal and we glad to have home for a bit.
