After splitting some wood for our neighbor I took a ride through the woods, I found this nice GIBIR just waiting for me, I also picked up a load of Beech I split this spring with more in the woods. 100_9445.JPG

Very nice, love the pics. It sure does not look like that here in Southern WV today, rainy and cold.

Gotta love sugar maple. I have a bit of it in my stacks ready for this winter. My grandfather thought beech was the best firewood around and I remember years where he only burned sugar maple and beech.

Hard maple is always nice to add to the pile. I just moved my tree stand to a nice sugar maple today.

Your not getting any rain? We're expecting rain after midnight well into tomorrow, heavy at times. Be safe....

It's coming in for tomorrow night, about .25 of a inch.

I think later this week we're in for some heavier rains.

I just discovered some sugar maple GIBIR myself. Actually I knew it was there, but I thought it was a red for the longest time. The color of the heartwood was the biggest giveaway - nearly white, basically the same color as the sapwood. In my reds, the heartwood is much more distinct.

I have about half a cord of sugar ready to go this season. Had to sacrifice a chain to get it as the tree was the backstop for a range, steel jacketed rounds are not friendly to chains. Huge tree, got about 2.5 cord outta it. I loaded up my truck and the rest stayed at my buddy's cabin. Good stuff.

It helps save the chains and the back, I have a better one at home, the one in the picture was given to me by our neighbor who we bought the land from so out of respect I use it.
