Hi, Getting ready for a July trip to France, I know it's the most expensive time but the wife is a teacher so I'm limited to the time table. I'm looking for ideas & places people have been to and really enjoyed. We're thinking of taking a river cruise from Cotes d'Azur to Paris. Then we want to stay in Paris for a couple of days and then to other fascinating places before heading back home. Bordeaux sounds intriguing for as a example... Thanks
Is this your first trip to France? How long are you going to be there? Big place, too much to see, easy to get overwhelmed. Don't try to do it all. I could spend a week in the Louvre and not see everything I would like to. Spend some time, think about what you want to see, then start to plan. One of my favorite things to do is drive the Loire river valley and visit the chateaus. KaptJaq
Yes, first trip to Europe. The river cruise is 11 days long and 3 or so days in Paris. We're trying to avoid renting a car this time so was considering taking the train to Bordeaux or wherever we decide to go visit. Thinking about 3-4 days extra.
Not sure about France, but in Germany the best thing we did was going to the small towns and playing it by ear on where we wanted to go and stay. No schedule and tried to stay away from the touristy stuff although we did some. Gary
Still pondering the timetable. Might be doing Paris for 6 days with the 11 day Rivercruise and call it a day. We will do it more at our leisure for the second time around. At this moment, we want to use up our Airmiles and be done with them.
Would love to visit France someday.Normandy & the American WW II cemetaries first. Then Bordeaux,Burgundy,Dordogne,Loire Valley & Provence after that.
