On a business trip not long ago, found myself a long way from home and found a hotel for for a couple nights. During the check in, the young woman asked if a I wanted a room with a fireplace or they also had one with a wood stove.... They also have a free cocktail hour starting in 30 minutes...Could this be real...? Fireplaces, wood stoves, free beer!!?? It's like the extreme opposite of my normal Holday Inn Express check in.. I didn't want to over react and tip my hand, think dang it, so in my most subdued tone, I said a wood stove would be fine..., while all the time wondering how much wood they had on hand and how good their insurance was.... While walking to the room down the outside hallway, I start to think about you guys and FHC.... Laughing to myself... No ones going to believe this... I see my room and then see that the firewood rack is right outside my door!! Obviously, they don't get many FHC guests or they would rethink this arrangement!
I passed through Gaitlinburg on a motorcycle trip years ago, I remember most of the hotels on the main strip had signs for in room fireplaces, I thought it was odd too.

I was in Northern California along the coast, I think this was Mendocino. Not my normal stomping grounds for sure.. We're not in Kansas any more Dorthy... Had a big fire, had to open the sliding door and window to the deck to keep me from cooking myself out..!! Maybe 250 - 300 sq ft room with a wood stove?
That's a funny post I hope you got good insurance. Say what a wood stove Now that's cool right there wood stove, free beer and a rack of wood outside, holy moly that's the cats meow right there
We stayed at a place on the Maine coast a couple years back that had a fireplace in the room, they asked if I wanted wood when I checked in so I said sure. Didn't get free beer but did get some nice homemade doughnuts in the morning.
Picking a hotel by sniffing out wood smoke... !!?? sheeze......, you would have to be a crazy wood hoarder to think like that! Didn't bring any splits home on this trip.... Airlines charge for extra bags these days... My kindling hoard is improving though...
