Scenario- My Dad and his neighbor brought some Ash & Mulberry to me from Neb. The neighbor wouldn't accept anything in return, so I owe him (in my mind at least).
He used my little 180C and really liked the weight and balance. So, what would be a nice saw I can get him that equates a 180? He's been using a nice 015AV I gave my Dad for limbing and stuff, but his main saw is a Jonsered 2255 w/ 20" bar.
Should I just get him another 180? or are there better saws for the price? Just throwing this out there, looking for ideas. Christmas and all/ sort of thing. Thanks, JB

I do not know what a 180 goes for these days . They are nice little saws.
I know a lot of people brag up those little echo cs 400 and cs450.
If it was my wish list for a small all around saw I would say a dolmar 421 but I know those run right around $325.
I am sure what ever you get him he will be vary happy with. That is a very nice gift to give.

Not to put a damper on your thread, but in these parts the interstate transportation of ash is a no-no due to EAB.

I picked up a nice 180c several months ago for $50.

First - Guido is correct, although I do not believe the emerald ash borer has been found in Nebraska to date.

Second - I don't personally find a noticeable different in the power/performance of an MS180 versus and MS170. Last time I was in the dealer I could have picked up a brand new MS170 for $179.95 and it's hard to beat for that price.

I'm giving dad a 180C this year for Christmas too. Just because of the easy start and AV I took it on trade.
He needed this for around the land IMO for a trim saw. Late 70's early 80's he bought a pos mini mac, then I gave him a new bought by me poulan 2000 in 1994 about year 2000. So time to update his trim saw again.
I didnt want it and prefer the cash, but I thought to myself, hmmmmm Christmas is coming up. :D

I would think it would be hard to notice the difference in that myself.

    170
DISPLACEMENT 30.1 cc (1.8 cu. in.)
ENGINE POWER 1.3 kW (1.7 bhp)

    180
DISPLACEMENT 31.8 cc (1.9 cu. in.)
ENGINE POWER 1.5 kW (2.0 bhp)

I did pull that 16" 043 as I like 050 stuff. Dad likes 14" so that is what I set it up with. I prefer 12" bars on the little saws myself.

I dont know these saws. But would bet yes. The 180c I got in was 1 year old and no H

Fully adjustable carbs are super cheap oem and aftermarket though. ;)

I know for sure the 170 does, purchased 2 years ago. But, it's still a good little saw. 14" bar, and a loop of 63 PS and she's a ripper.
