Need a new washing machine

Had to do the same on my Cabrio...Wife won't ever buy another washer without an agitator!

 

I do most of the laundry, and having to bend over almost into the washer to get the clothes out isn't easy for me.
I'd rather stand upright and reach into the machine. I think.

I insisted on one of them fancy efficient front loaders when we built this house in '03, my wife protested and hated it for the 10 years before it broke, which was one of my happiest moments of the last ten years. I told her go pick a new one out, I'm havin nuttin to do with it.

 

My wife would walk into the store and pick out the fugliest, fewest doodad machine she could find, pay for it, then walk out.
As far as I'm concerned, we wasted at least 1/2 of what we paid for this one.
I think we've had it about 8 years or so, and pretty much haven't liked it from the get go.
It was leveled by the delivery guys, then I redid it several more times, and it still shakes the house. Went so far as to go into the crawl and reinforce the joists. Helped a little.

 

I feel your pain in regards to shaking the whole house, ours is in a second floor bathroom, although the new one is not so bad. She went with a HE top load LG, no agitator, by the way and seems to like it, so I like it too.

 

I got a Bosch 4100? had it for 6 years no trouble so far... when looking they rate washers in number of loads they do before death. they figure 5000 is normal. my wife and I (yes I do over half) do minimum 15 loads a week. She is OCD about washing stuff every bed is fully stripped and laundered once a week.. OK I can see that but why the spare bedroom no one has slept in?

yeah, both will fit king size comforter Dryer is 7.8 cubic feet. This was requirement when wife moved in.. Why I am happily married. I just figure some things are give her what she wants.

 

My only advice would be to get one with an agitator. We replaced our old washer a year or to ago with a fancy new style one. And it doesn't wash worth a hoot. Granted our clothes can be pretty filthy.

 

Ahhhh! That would drive me nuts(er)! I'm OCD about NOT doing things that don't make any sense! (unless I'm the one doing it...then that is just, well, normal! )

 

Yup I have changed guest bedroom on tuesday.. then made it fresh for weekend visitor.. then again on monday.. The last ones the hard one because nobody will ever sleep on it! I figure it drives me but she said yes on new woodstove.. I can have 50 cord firewood outback and she puts up with me.. and helps split and stack too That's pretty even right there.. okay maybe I still owe her

 

I didn't read the entire thread but I'll comment on our recent purchase. My wife and I bought the maytag front loading HE machines. I've only had them about a month so far, the reviews and a couple we know sold them for us. The old style top loaders were over 12 years old and started to nickle and dime us. Not to mention the serious amount of wAter they used to run a load with.

 

Y'all should open a BNB, you'd get top marks for clean!

 

Your experience mirrors my own. I bought a fancy LG front loader five years ago and the door gasket kept coming off and allowing water to leak on the floor. The gasket was replaced twice under warranty the first year. After that I learned how to put it back on myself. At the three year mark the internals broke and was too expensive to fix. Had to toss it. By the way, being a low water unit, it never got the clothes clean.

Bought a fancy Samsung top loader (jets instead of an agitator) two years ago from HH Greg, this time with a five year extended warranty. That's coming from a guy that never buys extended warranties. As of last week, the machine has been repaired five times by A&E (Sears). One repair alone was $1,100 including parts and labor. I suspect all the repairs together had to exceed $2,500, thank goodness for the extended warranty. And the washer only cost $550.

The low water Samsung never got the clothes clean. And any black piece of clothing had lint all over it. Even when you trick the washer and pick a heavy duty cycle so the machine fills up with water, there was still white lint. I ran the cleaning cycle quite often with vinegar per the manual instructions to keep it clean inside, but no luck. The repair guy said to use HE soap, which I did, lots of different brands, still lint.

HH Greg has a policy that if they have to replace the same part for a third time during the warranty period, they will buy the washer back at full price. My pump went at the six month mark and then again at 1-1/2 years. And last week at the two year mark, it went again. I took that washer back to HH Greg this morning and they gave me a brand new GE top loader with the old style agitator.

In addition to the pump issues on the Samsung, the stainless steel basket was replaced, the leveling bumpers were replaced and the door lock went bad, not allowing the machine to fill with water. There were a few other parts as well, but I can't remember their names. Seems like everything was replaced at least once, except for the outer shell and the circuit board.

Never again will I buy anything other than an old style top loading agitator washer. I know some have had good luck with the new style units, but for a lot of people, they are a nightmare. And they have never gotten my clothes clean.

Lastly, do yourself a favor and buy the five year extended warranty on any washer. You will thank me later.

 

Funny thing about it is that the top loaders have many more moving parts than a front loader...

 

no its a GE, propane, matching one was electric and then we got pool.... so needed to steal power.... and it's 7.9 cubic feet just went and checked.. obviously so gave matching one away cause wife said more important to have dedicated line at pool (were using extension cord) only 100 amps at house so pulled 220 breaker and got 1 spare now....

of course nothing in my life is easy or simple... fake it til you make it
