A really busy day. All the wood was not moved today but at least half of it was moved today. Yes, my body is paying the price. This is the most work I've done in a day since before surgery but I really wanted to get it finished before the rains and high winds hit. That's not quite 2.5 cord. Not enough for the whole winter but we've already put some on the porch and will no doubt bring more up to put there before starting to use out of the barn. Then next spring if we need more, we'll simply bring more up then. This is how it was all moved. My wife even helped when she went back to take care of the roofing. She made 2 stacks and weighted them down lest the wind blow them over to the neighbor's. And finally, a pile of kindling we still have left to cut up. All pine. Some rounds of it to be split too but we've just been putting it off. Probably will for quite some time yet. No need to hurry. btw, except for the pine, almost all that green in the background is autumn olive. Very invasive stuff and we have lots of it.
Way to go Dennis! Although, I hope you're still able to function tomorrow. I have so much of that darn autumn olive, it's ridiculous. The little berries are tasty though, if you can get to 'em before the birds do. I've been on a couple cutting missions trying to at least make a dent in the stuff. Did the same at SisIL's place with some Hawthorn bushes/trees too.
Great to see you out getting it done Backwoods Savage!! I hope you aren't paying the price too much. Rest up and give it all you can when you feel up to it! I sure do wish you the best, and I know i'm not alone thinking great wishes for your recovery!! Take care of yourself. Autumn olive is all over around here too. I swear it was sent by the devil himself!! What a pain to keep under control.
Dave, I've thought about it but have never tasted those berries. How are they? As for cutting, that stuff grows back super fast. I cut some once in June and it grew about 18" in the next month.
Thanks Pete. One more thing is that I'm getting some shots in my shoulders Friday so thought it would be nice to get that task done before the shots then hopefully the shoulder pain will disappear. Indeed, a pain. The only good I've seen is that it gives the deer more cover.
Well, you need to eat more than one since they're so small, and they have little pits too. I found a Youtube vid last year of someone making jelly with those.
Can't overdo things with the meds either. Have to take celebrex as anything else like that will eat up my stomach. Almost lost all of it one time and don't want to do that again. I have 25% of my stomach rather than 100%....
Keep after, Dennis.... slowly! And good job, Judy on the stacking! Keep us posted on your progress, sir!
Dennis, I got a bad leg.. My dad fell out 40 out of a maple tree.. his climbers let go... so he doesn't have an elbow.. so both of us have body parts that plain do not work... Dad's 80ish very prim and proper politically correct aunts were appalled while we were trimming 18 foot hedges with ladders around their house with this statement " Hire the handicapped because we're fun to watch work ".. Still funny to me. Not that we would ever charge them...
Nice work Dennis. Wish I could of been there to give you a hand. I respect you guys so much, I hope I can do it the way some you guys do it when I get older...
Good job on getting the wood staged for winter, Dennis. With your efficient stove and well insulated home, that could about get you and Judy through winter. Along with a milder winter due to El Nino, that is (certainly what I'm hoping for anyway). It's gotta feel good to have that chore finished.
It was a good day Zap. One bad part. She fell down and scared the crap out of me but it turned out okay. Bad fall though. Not good.
