Have to question just what the goal of this is? http://www.iarc.fr/en/media-centre/pr/2015/pdfs/pr240_E.pdf
It's been all over the radio all day. Bacon is bad, so are hot dogs and hamburgers. You shouldn't eat steak. Finally around 4:00 they said that is not AS bad as smoking.
Humans have been eating red meat for centuries. Its all the crap that gets added I guess. savemoney, maybe the bacon prices will drop!
I'm a bit more suspicious that there is some other motive behind this. I think it goes up the same trail as "climate change". I wouldn't doubt about some foods being bad for you. To me, it those "highly commercially processed foods". The ones you process at home, or buy from local markets from local producers have much less of a chance to have chemicals dumped into them to extend self life, or add more taste to cheap stuff. Eat like Grandpa did. Better for you.
Yeah, I get the same feeling. Also, curing foods is specifically listed as to why these food cause cancer. Seems to me that either the meat or the cure would cause it, not the product of the two. Doesn't add up for me. Also, the study said "processed meats cause cancer" and red meats are "probably carcinogenic." Well, how is your suspicion news worthy? Get back to us when you actually find something.
WHO/IARC is a very important effort to globalize the "war on cancer." However, being governed by committee, their work is by definition a "compromise." Being French, they will always be against the American way of life.
Vienna sausages? I don't eat 'em... But everyone I know who does, seems fine. They don't eat those every meal. Steak less than once a week, no brainier. Eat like Grandpa- lived til 74 years old, survived WWII, had a rye and water or 4 every day since I could remember.... taught me a bunch of what I know about carpentry. Sure didn't die from grilled meat! Stupid news.
Last 3 words of the title - "claim to fame". 5 minutes worth. Must be a slow WHO news-worthy year. The "IARC Monographs Q&A on the carcinogenicity of the consumption of red meat and processed meat" reads like a presidential campaign - lots of 'independent organization' studies / data, lots of "may", "possibly" , and "not yet proven" nonsense. ( I think we all can agree that consuming chemically-treated products 24x7 "may" be bad for you. Heck, the way beef prices are here, 80% lean hamburger is the new 'sirloin' here. If this lowers prices, I'm stocking up on red meat & Bacon. Bring it on!
Yep, been all over the news tonight . Pfft I eat meat and eggs for breakfast almost every day , probably going to die , oh wait , I'm sure of it I eat some meat for lunch and dinner . I do eat a lot more of chicken and turkey than red meat though , turkey sausage, turkey bacon etc
