I'm just wondering how many house fires happened before they(uncle sam) finally made them(US Stove) pulled em? This is a full recall as in no units should be left out there!! No fixes here and you either get cash or credit to a new stove. Looks like they only want a few pieces of the stove to honor the recall. At least the parts they want returned leave the units inoperable!!

I'd rather like to see them actually come out and pull em to be destroyed!! If they leave any out some one will try using and poof we have another episode for the darwin's real life drama!!

I'm surprised there were 4400 people who thought that stove was a good idea.

Good post. We all new those were accidents waiting to happen. The price point for those was low, another indication of being cheap. Anyone who has any idea about any wood burning stove should know they are not plug and play. This recall goes to show how they cannot stand up to the use they were intended. I don't know how much good a "store credit" is going to be to those who bought these, but maybe they can buy some other products to put to use or sell to get their money back.

Only kidding, I don't dislike my mother in law that much.

I'm surprised they sold 4,400 of these. Maybe because window a/c units work ok they think these would also?

I think it's a great idea if somebody could perfect one, but obviously they didn't do much testing.

If some of you look at the recall you will discover that it isn't for all of them, just some.

It being a through wall or window mount isn't the problem if you pay attention to and follow the installation instructions and the stove has proper metal where it is needed.

We all know that reading and following directions is a major stumbling block even for a lot of "professional" installers.

Have you inspected your "spark" bucket lately and why can't Johnny read?

I wonder whats different on the non recalled units?

Are they drastically that different that we won't see an issue or will we just see the non effected units get pulled in due time? I got to go check to see if they are still marketing these or is that the end of them trying to market them until they can further develop them..........

Who needs a baffle made from proper metals, that can withstand those temps, when it's in your wall.

Quoting the article linked: " Incidents/Injuries - The United States Stove Company has received 16 reports of fire and property damage. No injuries have been reported. "

For someone renting, leasing, or otherwise restricted in their existing living space to install a full-size stove, I can see the appeal of these units.

That would be my guess, and potential issue here - I'll be the first to admit that I'm bad with the window A/C units here, filter cleaning is a low priority vs. the other umpteen million projects going on, usually happens when the Boss 'reminds' me..
How I know to clean the A/C filter usually consists of: :heidi:

Would I show the same lack of care w/ one of these units? No. Probably Not. Would I skip a needed cleaning or two? Honestly, I dunno.

    --
In any case, it sounds like a gasket issue / part failure, vs. a fundamental 'defect' with the stove design - good they're getting them recalled before anyone gets hurt.

Saw that - at 250 lbs., it's as heavy as the Ecoteck stove here.. Not something I'd be installing/removing (edit: in a window) without help.
