My BIL helped me out with some chores I needed done this week, so I today I returned the favor. He was supposed to get his hydro splitter back from the repair shop today, but my sister was using his truck this morning, so he didn't make it to the shop before they closed for the day at noon. S'ok, cause I brought my 6.3lb splitter. He's planning to burn it this winter (I'm working on him), but he only supplements with wood heat anyway... Some of it was ready to go, most was not. At least he's good about cleaning out the chimney - he does it a couple times a year. I think he knows the benefits at this point, but he'd like to get a couple years ahead like me, but he can't find the time with 4 kids. Anyway, we loaded up the bed of his truck, plus his wood trailer, with some walnut we had cut to rounds this spring. Then I had him feeding me rounds, and we got all that split. He's got one of those firewood racks you can get at the hardware store - 12'er. We stacked that up, but since we didn't have anything under the feet, it immediately tipped over... At least it leaned in towards the house... He's got a 16'x6' concrete pad in the one corner of his house - never stacks his wood there, but if it were me, that would be my main staging area. So I had to learn him on some cribbed ends... He did pretty good - I set the first couple of layers on them, and he did the rest. Altogether I think it stacked out to around a cord.
Good team work ! Yeah, getting ahead is important, it's about the only way to have good dry wood He did have beer for afterwards, right? LOL
Shawn, because he is not ahead with the wood, could you talk him into moving that wood away from the house where it will get more air flow? Like out in the wind?!!!
