I told the wife to keep it cheap on the anniversary present. Left a link up for labonville chaps. We use amazon alot so she went against what i said. She bought these husqvarna ones that are orang up top and grey at knee down. Showed up and suprised m to see the husky chaps. Tried em on fit fine but i ripped the lowest part of the crotch before it turns into double stiching. No big deal really. I tried to pull them apart further but the double stich holds strong .theey have a wedge pouch up front too . Cost i think 70$. Once the ground freezes i will be putting em to the test this season. Figure they will offer more protection than my bibs..

Forgot to mention i really wanted labonvilles because i try to buy usa made as much as possible when i can. Never heard a complaint on em either. If I ordered it would have beeen from them.

I don't know about the best, but I have a pair of Labonvilles and I'm happy. I picked them up at the Boonville logging show a couple of years ago for $80 I think.

I like my husky chaps. Have had them for 2 years and have held up great. A little small on the straps for the wraps around my legs but I have big legs.

I have some Jonesered branded chaps, but I never wore them very much... :emb: I just didn't like the chap style - the buckles would get caught on stuff, just couldn't get used to them. I just bought a pair of Husqvarna chainsaw pants, and I love them. I wore them all day today doing some firewood with my BIL, even though I didn't need to start the chainsaw once. You need a decent pair of work pants too, they have pockets, $110 at TreeStuff - hard to beat IMO.

Oh, and I'd offer you the chaps, but I gave them to my BIL tonight.

I've got the same ones & am really happy with them. I forget the price, but they were the most reasonable at the time.

Wife wanted to know what I wanted for my B-day. told her I should probably get a pair of chaps after all these years of getting lucky with close calls. She looked at the Husqvarna brand at TSC. Thought they looked "to thin." So she goes to my buddies Stihl dealership and gets me the promark 9 layer apron chaps. Kinda pricey but that's just her I guess. At first they seemed kind of bulky but I got used to that pretty quickly. I like the pocket they have and the fact that they have an extra layer on the knees. What ever kind you get, don't forget to wash them first to fluff up the fibers so the work properly in case of a mishap.
Oh, and these are thick enough I do believe they would work for rattlers.

I went Stihl one level below the Pro-The Woodcutter Series, bought the set which includes a very comfortable helmet with hearing protection, pull down mesh guard and safety goggles-I have found them more than adequate and as Butcher said you must wash them first---I'm very happy with my selection-I think it was @125. for the set
