Do any of you recognize this? C.R.S. Kicking in and I'm wondering if I asked this already here or somewhere else. The rope is about 10' long I guess. Both ends have a different system so once you hook it, it's hooked. They did not want it to come unhooked! Took me a minute just to figure out how you open each one of the dam things!
safety lanyard for a full body harness. Looks to be in bad shape though, I would not use it. Small end hooks on D ring on harness other end hooks to " structurally sound anchor point"
No kidding. Interesting. I wonder if I could get a new rope made for it and use it for whatever I wanted. Someone who does that type of work would have to make it happen though. Each metal fastener/end has a ring where the rope passes through. The rope passes around the metal ring and I guess would have to be braided around that ring.? Or maybe it would be better to make something stronger with it. Use steel rope or cable?
they are fairly inexpensive to buy. I believe Lowes etc carry them. you can get them with webbing rated at 5000 lbs. I have several out of date ( for safety use) ones around they do come in handy.
Hang your deer with it, that's about it... That's seen it's service life for sure,,, manila rope,,,that stuff rotted from the inside out thus looking good to use to the unfortunate person who found out it was rotten... You need a safety lanyard buy new... Keep it out of the sun when not in use. UV breaks down the fibers of synthetic ropes , lanyards etc...
I would just hang it with the other worn out tools I have. Definitely would not trust it. Even the snaps could be out of catywompas.
Agreed. Those snaps have too much rust and corrosion for my comfort. I'm not even sure I'd hang my deer on it on that manilla rope.
Super cool old piece of history! I love stuff like that. I often wish I had an old barn to hang stuff like that up in. My grandfather had a bunch of picture frames he made with displays of different types of fencing wire he'd acquired over the course of 50 years. Over 100 types of barbed wire and a bunch of other old odd fencing wire. There were a few 18" strands that a few historians were willing to pay good coin for but we kept them in the family, it's grandpas work after all....
Modern day version for climbing poles to be used with the bucksqueeze. Yours may be for climbing towers by the large hook.
Yea don't blame you. Got my first climbing belt and safeties. Hopefully the boys will feel the same way as you do. Mine are still good only 5 years old but my belt was just a little to big and hurt my hips after awhile.
