Decided to mess around after havin a few drinks. Plugged one of the dog house air inlets behind the stove legs. Tried both but it choked the fire to much. But one plugged really slowed down the blast furnace effect of the dog house shooting air straight back. Really seemed to slow down the flame show from the secondaries too. Going to keep an eye on her but i think plugging one may extend the burn time even more. It also seemed to make the primary air control a bit more fine tuned... Anyone else try this?

I haven't needed to mess with the air flow on mine, seems to be just about right. I sometimes get a little of the torch effect from the doghouse, but still get many hours of useful heat. If I had a stronger draft, I can see where it might need to be tamed down.

Yes. Blocked off about 1/3 of each air inlet with some small pieces of square stock I had laying around. Extended my burn from about 5 hours to 8. Works great.

I had to downsize the air inlets on my Vogelzang Defender stove (EPA) but it is (was) a VERY easy breather and I have a really good chimney. I haven't checked my draft but I bet it is too high, I meant to install a key damper the last time I had things apart but the whole project went sideways on me and I was so focused on getting things to work and back together that I didn't realize until the next day that I had forgot the damper! :picard:

I was thinking of you the other day when I seen this post, if ya wanna tinker with the ole NC30, this looks like a good lil project for ya NC 30 install | Page 3 | Firewood Hoarders Club

Right where I want to be.
I've done it with small magnets. It does slow the blast effect, but that's needed toward the end of the burn to help keep things going in the back of the box. Also helps at startup.
It would be nice if it was adjustable, but that would drive the cost of the stove up.
Those magnets get HOT. Trust me on this.
I may mess around with it again this winter. When I did it, I was still learning the stove, so adding another variable into the mix probably skewed my results.
