in the past few days there have been two threads locked ,i cant recall when i saw anything locked before that,we all know the rules ,i think we need to take a breath and lighten up a bit ,there are other sites to discuss other things ,if we can police ourselves we wont need to be treated like children . I really like the easy going style here lets not mess it up, have a good day everyone.
Don't mind a moderator giving a warning when a thread is starting to drift a little too far but I don't like to see them locked without warning. The Moderating group do talk to each other (usually over a beer I hope) and a subtle warning from them should be enough to get us back on course. If we don't get back on FHC/thread topic then we don't deserve the freedom we have here... KaptJaq
It is rare that a thread gets locked for good. It often gets locked to give the participants time to cool off, for staff to discuss the issue, and to give us time to clean up the thread before reopening.
KaptJaq I closed the firewood thieves thread ( Temporarily ) although at first I was not sure and we do have it in the reports system. We have already decided to clean it up and reopen it. Grizzly Adam is correct we discuss threads as a group weather we close it or not. Some cases are better to stop them before we decide what to do with it because this is all in our spare time and we are not on all at the same time. Our track record speaks for itself and we try hard to not close threads because we want members such as you to stay! It often is because a member or members report it that we take action to see whats up. In this threads case there where discussions already both in the thread and in pms with certain members about the thread a few days ago. I am very busy today and cannot get to the cleaning up until late tonight.
I realize that this is a "spare time" project for you guys and appreciate the job you do. A quick little Mods post that says something like " You guys might want to drop the references to ??whatever?? or this thread is going to get trashed." would serve more than one purpose. First it should remind the participants what we are here for and, second, it would let other members who read the thread know what we would like our standards, as a group, to be. It can also open those standards to discussion in case some feel that they are getting too restrictive. Having the ability to voice an opinion is important but we should all remember that our final vote is whether or not we participate in these forums. KaptJaq
Point taken Jak. Also, a note from staff upon a thread being locked that states why it is locked and that it is being discussed between staff and the members involved and that it will likely be unlocked upon the situation's resolution would go a long way towards relieving tensions.
Pallet Pete , glad to hear you'll be reopening my stolen wood thread. I opened it up to add some more info a while ago, and found it locked. I totally understand why. Is it possible to merge the new thread I started with the old one to keep my posts contiguous?
Late to this one guys.. Know nothing about this or much else for that matter lol.. Jaq you're OK and I am sure there was a good reason for action taken.. The mods and admins do discuss this sort of thing then decisions are made.. There are really very few bad apples here and we do deal with them quickly so great people such as yourself don't have to deal with the BS. After all this is why many come here to escape that crap.. Please feel free to contact us because we all do care about our good members of which there are many.. Ray
Amen. yes, to escape it, and to be in a family friendly forum where I make friends, learn from other's experiences, have few laughs, and not have to worry about dirty fingernails.
