Ok… so last night I scooped the pellets from my shop's Englander and I vacuumed the auger… pellet jam solved! Fired it up and it's running fine. Then I decided to pull the auger from our St Croix… it's been making a popping sound for a week… kinda like something was catching the auger. I got it apart and it looks like it needs some lube… the leading edge of the auger is bent as if something had been run thru the machine that was tougher than a pellet. I'll get a file out or grinder to fix that. So I figured I'd just use the NG furnace today and lube and reinstall the auger tonite. Today we had a family get together with our kids and grandkids. I woke up late (I'm a night owl after 40 years of trucking) and my bedroom was @ 61F… I figured my wife was baking and she turned the heat down. The LR was 65F… so I set the t-stat to 72… an hour later it was 63F…hmmmm. No heat coming from the furnace registers! The family was now arriving… it was nearly noon. So I called our furnace outfit to get someone out to install a new ignitor. Turned on the electric oven for heat. Wife turned it off to save $$$. I turned it back on to stay warm. The furnace guy showed up 30 minutes after I called… turned out he was just ready to leave the shop for six service calls… we had heat by the time lunch was done. I'll have the pellet burner back on line on Christmas Day…. -12F or colder tonite! Brrrrr...
Nope… $69.00 service charge plus parts and labor… $316.00 and we have a new ignitor and heat! Now I see that tonight's forecast is for single digits not below zero stuff… that's a little better.
I don't think $69 is bad for a service charge....came over fast, off-hours, and Krooser is happy! Sounds like a home run to me.....he's warm, wife happy(er) (I mean lets face it, isn't being married to Krooser enough to make ANY woman ecstatic?!)
krooser, I would be checking online or local parts stores for an extra ignitor. Should run you $30-$40
That was the ignitor on the NG furnace not the pellet burner. The furnace is 23 years old… we replaced two ignitors in the first three years but the last one has lasted since 1995 or so. I'll be dead before I need another one...
