Sorry I'm late on this Thread, DAM Dave! And I thought NJ was bad! I agree with a lot of the gang, "SHOOT UM" but bear traps work also. Step in one trap and I guarantee they won't come back! ;)

You could add to the bottom of that, that " you will definite meet the girls of your dreams", perhaps that's the wrong incentive though?

Thought I put up a couple more progress pics last night, but I guess not. Did a little more after dinner and went out again today.
Almost a cord stacked, and had to dig up some posts from the back stacks to be able to stack more.
Got another hole dug, and I'll soon go set that post, then do some more stacking. I've got a 1/3 cord on the trailer I need to empty, then it's off to get the rest from the field.
Might reverse that, so I can have more posts, sooner.

Made it as far as setting one upright post and the stringers/sleepers, then started the first row, before the thunderboomers started.
I thought it best that I retreat to the house. Grabbed a few Pine splits on the way in.
Temp dropped almost 10 degrees in the last hour.

About the thieving....last year I had a tree trimming guy who started dropping me loads of wood mixed in with chips from his chipper. Saves him from having to pay to dump it in the county landfill. I had him drop it a little bit away from my house where he could access the drop spot right off the road. I have an outdoor furnace so a mixture of wood species is fine for me and the wood chips are a plus for putting out in my orchard. He started by dropping several loads of pine and then he dropped a load of sweetgum. Well some sorry SOB came by and helped themselves to the sweetgum. Well the joke was on him. The stuff was completely green and weighed a million pounds. A total PITA to try to split and very little heat for the effort. I hope he got a dope slap from his maul bouncing back at him when he tried to split it. Jack Assparagus wood thief.

Oh yeah, I wound up posting a sign that said "no trespassing. firewood is not free" and I put up a locked gate between two 12" diameter posts concreted in the ground to block the driveway. I hate people trespassing on my land and stealing my stuff.

Don't sweat it bro. God will take care of them. Smile and say... they will enjoy the fruits of my labor today, but will be sorry for it when they meet their maker. It's our jobs to rake care and forgive. Sounds a Lil nuts but there's a time for everything.. but taking crappie sweetgum, well. It ain't worth the bat of an eyebrow.

I use rubber snakes, scares the hell out of 'em even in the dead of winter! Never been a real problem but many of my stacks are close to the road so it's sorta asking for trouble. The other thing is I split by hand, X27, sledge and wedges, and everyone driving by can see me working, so with about 10 cord stacked maybe they think I'm too tough to deal with!thanks:rofl:

Went out and stacked the wood I had in the trailer, then went and got another load. Then, the snow started, and my SisIL showed up with some rounds to be split.
We did that, then I took her out back and we loaded up some of the Pine I have back there. There's not much.....2/3 cord....but I'm just going to give it all to her. I wasn't going to use it until next year anyway, and she needs it now. No great loss for me, since anything I get to replace it will dry in a summer.
Anyway, I finished the load I had, then came in for a piece of apple pie and to warm up. Sun's back out, so I'll head back out in a few. The last stack I set up is 12', which is what I'm bringing from the field.
Not much progress yet today, but here's a pic.
