6" class A install started, brick work done, starting to run chimney tonight. I hope to have the PH setting in the hearth this weekend. May be a few weeks before I can have my first fire, a few nights in the 40's and 50's but back in the 60's now.
I must have made the hearth to inviting as I've already had my first guest! I'm not the only one looking forward to the first fire, found this little friend on my hearth after dinner. Looks like a juvenile Black snake
Install complete, test fire last night very good draft 3 small oak splits after engaging the cat temp climbed to above 400 even with air shut almost off. Second small fire today had to keep the house open and attic fan going. Supposed to get in the low 40's tonight maybe even lower.
You are going to really like the Progress - it a remarkable stove. Would love to see a completed install picture. That looks like it was a fun project closing in the fireplace opening. I extended my Hearth using Tile like you did. What materials did you use under the tile to build up the Hearth? Did your Progress ship with or without the Iconel Screen installed below the bypass damper?
The brick work was not hard at all, this was the first time I have ever layed brick but I had all the tools available which makes a huge difference. I did make several small mistakes that I would do differently that would make it look better if I could redo it. But I'm very happy with the way it turned out. I'll get some pictures after I've got it cleaned up, it will be next weekend before I can work on it again and get the pictures. Here one picture of the install to tide everyone over. Woodstock quit using the Iconal screen either the fall of 13 or 14 I don't remember which. They found it trapped to much fly ash and was easily clogged resulting in poor performance for many people. I wanted a taller hearth but was concerned about clearences (low ceiling in basement) it was easier to modify what I have and add tile hearth on top of concrete floor so it does not interfere with foot traffic.
I heard the screen was no longer used. Just keep your eye on the cat - It may require more frequent cleanings without the screen.
Still need to finish cleaning up but before and after pictures. No heat to great heat really looking to some cold weather just to stretch the legs on this beast! As well as about 1/3 what I expect to burn this year moved to the house standing dead red and white oak cut in 13 this is a great way to move wood even if you have to borrow the trailer
