I knew cottonwood was bad. Figured aspen was low bit just didnt really know.

Even though I am a forester I know more regional trees and such. We have cottonwood here..not super common. But have no aspen. Therefore I dont know much about it.

Be glad u don't have any lol ! These are honestly some of the biggest straightest trees I've personally cut.....so its a shame to waste em :( We checked at all the local mills...and foresters. All said drop em...and move on . If they were Oak...we'd be rich lol !

What the heck do they make paper out of?

Or they dont and there no mills up there? Or I guess they could make paper out of softwood only at those mills?

Were all importers , sadly china is taking over this industry as well as is south america. They can grow pines like crazy in brazil!!!

Our mills here actually pulp out the wood and form it into the TMP pulp pull it off the screen after dry and cut it to 4x8 sheets and put on a pallet to ship to china. China then rehydrates it to pulp it again , makes paper to sell back to us!!!

Not to mention the reduction in paper products esp newsprint. Most mills have shut down paper machines or lines totally.
