I'll try not to be long winded… My neighbors are in their 80's and just recently after our nor-easter their maple in front of the house had a big limb come down in the street so I went over and cut it up for them and put it to the curb. The old gal came out and said were afraid of that tree coming down in the future and with ice and snow it would cost us a fortune to have done.

Now, they both live on a fixed income and I've known them since 1966 when I was a wee kid so I said to them, I'll take it down if you want. Well, she and her husband were over joyed but sad.
Here, the tree was a home/marriage gift when they moved in from his Mother and they planted it in 1965. I didn't really remember that but how could I? I was still peeing my pants! Anyway, My buddy from work came over and we split it up. I actually had a tear :( taking this tree down, but the Beer kinda helped things after :tears: It's such a shame that these Maples just don't live much past 50 years here, it's just the nature of the beast!

You did your neighbors a good deed Dave. Sad about it being a wedding gift but they already knew it had to go.

Nice job Dave! The gift of giving continued, offering to take it down was the best thing that could have happened to that old tree.

No matter what Dave's friends have as a souvenir from the tree, I bet they'd love anything showing all of those rings...
