I got a call yesterday from my craigslist ad. They had a maple split in the last storm and need it cleaned up. Only bad thing is that I had to get rid of the leaves and all the small branches. The trunk and main branches are large so I'll get a good amount of wood from it.
Had to get rid of the sticks and leaves- did you have to haul it away somewhere or could you pile it up on site for later burning? I bet most or all of us have had to do the same at one time or another just for the wood. The junk cleanup sure is an awful lot of extra work, but good catch on the maple.
I'll put the brush in a pile for them, but I ain't taking it with me. Looks like a good bit of wood though, nice haul.
I learned my lesson. That's the last time I haul away the branches and leaves, took too much time, more than I thought it would. There is a lot of wood there, there is a bunch of big rounds that can't be seen in the picture. I need to cut the rest of the tree down also.
Yes, the only way to handle the brush would be to have a good size chipper to turn it into mulch (once it has rotted a bit so it does not pull the nitrogen out of the soil) Having to haul it away cuts into the worth of the wood you are getting.
Yeah, I have a small chipper, 8 horse power Tomahawk but that's a lot of work to when it's that much brush.
